TR-49 review - "Not for everyone, but certainly appeals to code-breaking fans"
TR-49 review - "Not for everyone, but certainly appeals to code-breaking fans"I've never really fancied myself as a big puzzle solver, nor have I been particularly skilled at cracking codes. But something about old-school point-and-click adventures has always appealed to me - although you might argue that that's never really been an entirely logical challenge (combining random straws and paper clips from your inventory to create a bomb that will somehow unlock a secret room guarded by alien cats isn't exactly logical). This is probably why TR-49 caught my eye, because, for some reason, the visuals reminded me so much of Lost in Time from 1993 - that and the fact that it's from inkle, a studio I've come to love thanks to Overboard! and Expelled!.  ... Dawnmaker review - Light up the board, defeat the darkness!
Dawnmaker review - Light up the board, defeat the darkness! The darkness can come from anywhere, and the powers that be only know how many stories have been written describing the different origins. Sometimes it's metaphorical, arising from the human soul and spreading to wreak absolute devastation on people at large; other times, it's literal darkness manifesting as shadows, sludge, and the like. Regardless of what form it takes, you're almost always asked to clear it away, fix it, or learn to live with it in a refreshing exercise of live and let live. But with Acram Digital, the darkness has become almost a physical presence on the digital board where Dawnmaker takes place. It may not be Catan, but we'll find out if you can build your way to fun. What is Dawnmaker? ... [ MORE ]

Gunnar Cupertino + Sun glasses review - "Looks cool, but doesn't feel great"
Gunnar Cupertino + Sun glasses review - "Looks cool, but doesn't feel great"It's a bit odd for me to be rating glasses made to be worn for hours under the sun, as I've always been an indoors-loving critter that's averse to going out. Every so often, though, this little introvert does get to go out and about to enjoy what my tropical country has to offer, so having a pair of sunglasses to whip out when the situation calls for it is definitely useful. I know I've said that I'd like to give my eyes some extra TLC this year, so Gunnar has now become part of my everyday kit. But while the Cruz variant suits me perfectly, the Cupertino + Sun is sadly less-than-perfect - and it has more to do with the bridge of my nose more than anything else. ... [ MORE ]

Cozy Caravan review - "Lots of cute quests!"
Cozy Caravan review - "Lots of cute quests!"I am a huge fan of cosy games and even more so a fan of games that have lots of different quests that keep me busy with something to do! With that in mind, Cozy Caravan hits a lot of the marks for me. It's a cute, wholesome, cosy game where you are playing as a little creature whose goal in life is to harvest items for your market, help your friends, and explore throughout the town.  The game is paced out with a day and night cycle, on a weekly basis. During the daytime, on most days, you can travel around finding new items or helping people out. There are a lot of different individuals who have different needs or quests. Some just want to hitch a ride from one town to another, some want a specific task to be done, and some just need help harvesting some produce! There are even mini-games where you can work as a server at different cafes, bringing drinks to tables. Doing good deeds - even just waving to people - results in a bar filling up. When this is full, you get a token that you can spend at the Guild, which allows you to upgrade your caravan home or your skills. ... [ MORE ]

Knight & Dragon IV review - "The fourth story of adventure!"
Knight & Dragon IV review - "The fourth story of adventure!"Games are getting more advanced, and already we've had many with compelling stories that are told with few words. Sometimes all you need are clean, clear visuals that paint a narrative for you to follow. In that sense, the pictures form words in your mind, which you use to make sense of everything, but it's nice to return to the words themselves. Reading lets us create our own images and details that come to life as fully as possible, and the more words we have, the more complete the images feel. Dgjam Studio is continuing to pursue this with Knight & Dragon IV, where the words are ready to whisk you away on a fantasy journey… but can they do so with gusto? What is Knight & Dragon IV? ... OXS Storm A2 headset review - "Decent, with great battery life"
OXS Storm A2 headset review - "Decent, with great battery life"There are tons of different pairs of headphones on the market, with the most recent we've checked out being the OXS Storm A2 - a wireless gaming headset with hybrid ANC that is looking to be a staple in your gaming experience.  The OXS Storm A2 isn't a flashy headset, coming all in one colour with a removable microphone. There are a bunch of buttons on either earmuff, with one side having the On/Off button (which can be held for a microphone mute), along with the volume (which also can be held to move onto the next song or back to a previous song).  ... Honor Magic8 Pro review - "A phone for pictures"
Honor Magic8 Pro review - "A phone for pictures"The Honor Magic8 Pro is the newest, most powerful phone they've released. It's got a lot of AI integration, providing a much deeper ability to assist in everyday actions, and more importantly to me, take a lot of truly stunning photos. Let's take a step back to how the Honor Magic8 Pro feels. The phone itself is roughly as big as the iPhone that I have been previously using, though it's both thinner and thicker. The camera on the front of it sticks out quite a bit, in a massive circle; it's really, really quite big! This is due to a lot of the different features and lenses that are within this camera system, which I very much like. I do feel this phone is slightly top-heavy, due to the camera on it. The screen is crisp, the colours clear, and everything just feels good. ... [ MORE ]

Status Audio Pro X review - "Great sound quality and noise cancelling"
Status Audio Pro X review - "Great sound quality and noise cancelling"Now, I have been reviewing and testing a variety of earbuds for quite some time. I have my favourite pair, which have gone with me everywhere, and I have yet to find a pair that has topped them. But I do think the Status Audio Pro X is a contender, just on sound quality alone. Let's start with the case and looks of the Status Audio Pro X. The case itself is simple - it's on the flatter side, with a USB-C insert to charge it. There is a small light bar in the middle of the front that lights up to give you a visual clue on whether you need to charge your earbuds. The magnetic snap is good. Each of the earbuds snaps in well. There is a strange QR code on the top of the inside of the case, which leads nowhere on my phone... in any case, it's just a very sleek and durable-feeling case. ... [ MORE ]

Boox Note Max review - "Top-notch productivity and gaming without the eye strain"
Boox Note Max review - "Top-notch productivity and gaming without the eye strain"Whether it's simply because of the inevitable passing of time or the years of playing games into the wee hours of the night, my eyesight just isn't what it used to be - and that's coming from someone who's already had fancy laser eye surgery after suffering from severe nearsightedness (or high myopia, if you want to be fancy about it) since kindergarten.  So I suppose it comes as no surprise that I'm always trying to look for ways to give my often neglected eyes some well-deserved TLC, but even with that, I'm a total latecomer to the world of e-ink devices. If it hadn't been for the Boox Palma 2, I never would've known what it's like to give my eyes a break - and with the Boox Note Max this time around, that's never been more evident. ... [ MORE ]
