Beast Game is a werewolf adaptation for iOS with a bit of a hefty price tag
Beast Game is a werewolf adaptation for iOS with a bit of a hefty price tagWhen it comes to board game adaptations, there's plenty to choose from. However, mobile seems to excel at bringing those which challenge you to suspect your friends and trust no one. There's probably some sort of weird psycho-analytic point to be made there, but in truth, it's just leading me to talk about today's subject, Beast Game. The best way to describe Beast Game is in its similarities to the social deduction staple Werewolf, which players of Town of Salem will be familiar with. That's not to say it's a one-to-one adaptation, however, as a brief glance at the physical version will attest. Beast, the board game, takes a far greater fantasy inspiration both aesthetically and play-wise. ... [ MORE ]

Clank! is an award-winning board game that's made the jump to mobile with burgling deckbuilding action
Clank! is an award-winning board game that's made the jump to mobile with burgling deckbuilding actionAs every good D&D player knows, you don't mess with dragons. Well, you do, but you usually make sure you're outside of that 60-foot cone beforehand. And if you've always wanted to grab as much loot as possible before making a run from a giant fire-breathing lizard, then you'll be glad to know Dire Wolf Digital's latest game, Clank!, lets you do just that. The objective in Clank! is simple; steal everything and get out alive. Easier said than done as not only do you have to deal with traps, obstacles and monsters, but also the constant looming threat of the dragon you've burgled your ill-gotten loot from. But like any good board game, there are even more twists, as you can always choose to go deeper into the castle, risking your loot and life for even greater rewards.  ... [ MORE ]

Pirate Outlaws 2: Heritage takes you back to the high seas with more deckbuilding action
Pirate Outlaws 2: Heritage takes you back to the high seas with more deckbuilding actionFans of roguelike, pirate-themed, deckbuilder Pirate Outlaws can rejoice. The sequel, announced earlier this year, now has something of a release date as Pirate Outlaws 2: Heritage is set to hit storefronts in 2025. You may remember that the game was first announced back in April, but we finally have an idea when we can start getting our mitts on it. For one, PC players will be lucky enough to get hands-on early as it's set to hit limited-access open beta on October 24th. Currently, there's no sign of early access for iOS and Android, but we do at least know for sure it is coming to handheld, probably at the same time as its mainline release. ... [ MORE ]

What we know about the leaked Switch and mobile Pokémon multiplayer game that was headed for release
What we know about the leaked Switch and mobile Pokémon multiplayer game that was headed for releaseWell, it's about time we covered those Gamefreak leaks. But don't worry, we're not digging into bizarre lore or other strangeness, instead, we're taking a look at purely what we could (or could have) expected from the suite of unannounced games that were shown off. Case in point, a potential cross-platform Pokémon multiplayer game intended to release for Nintendo Switch and mobile. Unfortunately, while plenty of outlets leapt on the initial reveals, by the time we got to it mere hours later the supporting images and videos have since been scrubbed from the account of original poster Centro leaks. But what we do know is that the game supposedly revolved around riding Pokémon to tame them rodeo style, and had been in development since 2019. ... [ MORE ]

Discussing Media Mix and Comic tie-ins; An interview with Studio Ellipsis head Alexandre Amancio
Discussing Media Mix and Comic tie-ins; An interview with Studio Ellipsis head Alexandre AmancioIt may not surprise you to hear that I’ve been travelling again. And while it may sound like a jolly, rest assured I was doing plenty of work in the process. In fact, the reason I flew out to sunny (or rainy, as it turned out) Lisbon was to chat with the folks at Studio Ellipsis. This newly-opened studio was founded with the help of FunPlus, and you may have seen us reporting on their first venture with the Sea of Conquest comic book series Cradle of the Gods. But that’s not all they’re working on, far from it. And while I can’t offer any stunning revelations, I did get the chance to listen to what they’ve got planned. One of those people was Alexandre Amancio, who served as SVP of world-building and IP strategy at FunPlus before taking up the position of leading Studio Ellipsis. That basically means he handled all the ‘franchise’ stuff. ... [ MORE ]

Interview: Sea of Conquest: Cradle of the Gods narrative director on IP and the comic-book tie in
Interview: Sea of Conquest: Cradle of the Gods narrative director on IP and the comic-book tie inBy now you’ve probably already read my interview with Alexandre Amancio, head of the recently opened Studio Ellipsis. But he wasn’t the only person I was able to nail down (figuratively) for an interview, as I also got the chance to chat with Guillaume Colomb, the narrative director who helped to organise the recently released comic book from the studio, which is also their first major project. Now it may be tempting to scoff at the idea of comic books, but being an unrepentant fan of the medium itself, I was pleasantly surprised to see how much effort had gone into creating a really enthralling adaptation of Sea of Conquest. For a game which, I think we’d all agree, is a bit thin on the ground when it comes to story, it feels like a real attempt to flesh out the world and characters. ... [ MORE ]
