Todd Howard: Starfield Has Benefited Immensely from “The extra time afforded to it after Xbox’s acquisition of Zenimax”

Starfield is the crown jewel of Bethesda Game Studios and director Todd Howard shared a few tidbits of information about how this ambitious space project came to be. The game was originally intended to be a multiplatform title; however, fate had other plans for the project. Microsoft went on an aggressive acquisition spree and the gaming company went for a massive bounty by acquiring Zenimax, the parent company of Bethesda. And it was a lengthy process.

Delays can be a blessing in disguise. Howard did not let the delay dampen his spirit, but saw it as an opportunity to polish his vision and release it in an ideal state.

Starfield Would Have Been Released Sooner if It Weren’t for the Microsoft Acquisition

Directing massive video games takes time to perfect and Todd Howard understands what the gaming community is going through as they wait for the next major release from Bethesda Game Studios. The director had high hopes for his recent project featuring the dark vacuum of space and the idea of exploring unknown regions; unfortunately, despite the benefit of being delayed, the game still missed a few marks and lacked a few defining features that the gaming community found in other games.

Microsoft convinced Howard to delay Starfield and this encouraged the director to use the time to make improvements before shipping the game to the world. The Zenimax acquisition was a long process that forced the developers to make a few tough decisions that ultimately benefitted the final product from their point of view.

Starfield is polished to a sheen in a way no prior BGS title has been, showing off the benefits of the extra time afforded to it after Xbox’s acquisition of Zenimax. Seen as one of the most important games in Xbox’s history they have done the impossible and lived up to the hype.

Microsoft saw the game’s potential and wanted to release it exclusively on its proprietary gaming platform under the best condition possible.

Let’s start this review by breaking down just what this game is, and how it all comes together to still have that Bethesda Games Studio heart.

This project signifies a new era for the gaming company and promises to set the standard after this acquisition.

Starfield is a new beginning. Not only for Bethesda but for Xbox as a whole. With excellent writing, stunning graphics, and thrilling gameplay it makes the galaxy yours to explore, shape, and live in. It is a wonderous tapestry to experience your story in a way that only the best have done before.

The acquisition bought Howard more time to iron out the wrinkles and make the game he wanted without the pressure of meeting a release date. However, the delay did not allow the developers to fix the unrealistic behaviors of in-game shopkeepers, which affected the immersion of other players.

Regardless of the outcome, it must have been better than the original version Howard prepared before the decision to delay the game. The delay somewhat improved Starfield, and reduced its chances of being pelted with backlash from the gaming community and critics.

Game development is not for the faint of heart. It is a business that prioritizes making money. Microsoft wanted to acquire these major players in the field to improve their chances of staying in the race.

Howard made the most of his borrowed time during the acquisition phase; unfortunately, Starfield still wasn’t polished enough. The game had a rocky start but was still considered successful.

The developers are working to finish the Shattered Space expansion which can redeem the base game. Bethesda could learn from their shortcomings and make the most out of the time they have left.

Todd Howard is a visionary and he of all people knows time is finite. Howard was racing against time and the acquisition gave him a cushion.
