Overwatch 2’s biggest competitor, Marvel Rivals, seems to be shattering all the records at the moment, which is the biggest contributor to the former’s dying relevance in the market.
However, Blizzard seems to have a plan to tackle the situation. Blizzard has rehired a former developer who specializes in creating PvE modes. This raises speculations about whether Blizzard is looking at bringing back the fan-favorite mode or not.
Overwatch once had PvE missions, which made it extremely exciting. However, despite promises of bringing the mode to the sequel, Blizzard failed to live up to it, and the mode was eventually canceled. However, ever since the release of NetEase’s Marvel Rivals, Overwatch 2 has found itself in a tough spot.
There has been a significant drop in the game’s popularity. However, not all is lost, and Blizzard might know what to do to reiterate its dominance over the market. Jorge Murillo, a senior PvE levels designer, has found his way back into the studio. His arrival opens doors to new possibilities that might save the game’s dying relevance.

His homecoming indicates that Blizzard wants to reintroduce the PvE missions. Overwatch 2’s direct competition from Marvel Rivals might force the former to reintroduce this forgotten mode.
However, PvE missions could really do wonders for the game, similar to how they did before. Blizzard did promise the players that Overwatch 2 would have them, but they were eventually canned. Now players are again seeing a ray of hope for this mode to make a comeback.
Nothing can be said for sure at the moment since Blizzard has not announced anything at the moment. However, the rehiring of a PvE levels designer is a pretty strong indicator that the studio sure is cooking something.
If not PvE missions, then Blizzard needs to come up with a different solution to do something about the dip in its popularity. Live-service game developers need to be on their toes at all times and keep coming up with new and exciting updates to keep players hooked.
Especially with a competitor like Marvel Rivals in the market, Overwatch 2 needs to come up with something quickly, or else, we might see a further dip in the number of players. The studio needs to think fast here. Do you want to see PvE missions in Overwatch 2? Let us know in the comments below.
