What are ‘legging legs’ on TikTok? New body trend sparks backlash

After “legging legs” began trending on TikTok, a plus-size influencer questioned if her size would ever be good enough for today’s society.

TikTok influencer Ashley Rose Hartley was beside herself when she came across “legging legs” trending on the platform.

“Legging legs” describes the body type that is socially acceptable for leggings, which are tight spandex-like bottoms.

Though she’s confident with her ‘thickness,’ Ashley questioned if society will ever accept a plus-size woman.

Legging legs are when you have a thigh gap with long and slender-looking legs. The trend has been carried out by young women on TikTok who feel they fit the prototype for the perfect legging legs.

However, Ashley, who referred to her thighs as “thic,” posted a TikTok video of her wearing leggings. As she spun around to show off her body type, Ashley’s background sound said words of reassurance.

She also included a text overlay saying, “Here to remind you that all legs are legging legs.”

Viewers who have sided with Ashley’s view commended her for her beauty and said she looked “fantastic” in her leggings despite not having a thigh gap.

While others commented that as a woman, it’s important to dress for yourself and not dress to meet anyone else’s standards.

Another viewer went as far as saying they ‘hated’ the leggings legs trend, “The way I see it — if you own leggings and you have legs, then you have legging legs. Hate this trend that’s going around.”

Though TikTokers would like to see the legging legs fad come to an end to increase body positivity, it seems as though the concept is here to stay as the hashtag “legging legs” continues to trend on the app.
