GTA 6 might have created the biggest hype train the gaming world has ever seen. After the monstrous success of GTA 5 over the years, which was released more than a decade ago, fans have been waiting for a long time for a worthy successor.
After a lot of anticipation, Rockstar Games finally announced the upcoming GTA installment via a trailer on December 4, 2023. But that’s all about it, as there has been no solid update from the company since then, except for some breadcrumbs for teases and this negligent behavior might kill all the hype for the highly ambitious title.
The 90-second GTA 6 trailer, which was released almost a year ago, was sufficient to generate enough excitement for Rockstar’s open-world game to win the Golden Joystick Awards 2024‘s fan-voted Most Wanted Game title.
We were only given a small preview of the larger things that were to come during the acceptance speech. A Rockstar representative who didn’t introduce himself stated this on the stage:
He also went on to promise us that “amazing things on Grand Theft Auto 6” are being done by an incredible amount of people. And all of these are “absolutely mind-blowing things”. He also stated it was a real honor for him to come on the stage and accept the award for a game that hasn’t even been released yet.
The Rockstar personnel wished there were more people from the company to take that award. And we wish there were more information on the game from that representative. At the end of his speech, he assured us that there’s “more to come.” However, it’s been almost a year, and we haven’t yet witnessed something “more” than the trailer.
Since the previous trailer was released more than 353 days ago, the developers have continued to tease the game, but there hasn’t been much, if any, new information released.
The hype train may lose steam as a result of these ambiguous clues, at least temporarily. However, these small leaks are not keeping them from fueling controversy regarding anti-Russia sentiment.
Yes, a huge game like GTA 6 indeed takes a substantial time to be developed. GTA 5 itself was probably the biggest game of the last decade. So, to cross that barrier of success, Rockstar has to outdo himself in terms of creativity and innovation. And for that, fans are ready to wait. But leaving them all dry with some insignificant drops of tease isn’t going to hold the hype string for long.
