It’s a known fact that the initial launch of Diablo 4 wasn’t smooth sailing at all. The early updates drove away hordes of players, with Blizzard making quite a number of controversial changes that were not popular.
However, Diablo 4 saw record-breaking sales at launch, and the studio has managed to regain all the lost ground with the game’s recent additions and Vessel of Hatred expansion.
However, the fact that it’s the player base that is driving these changes, not Blizzard itself, might prove to be fatal in the long run for the game.
Ever since Diablo 4‘s release, gamers have been extremely vocal about what they want to see in the game and what they want Blizzard to abandon. Considering the number of shenanigans Blizzard pulled off when the game launched, the community’s demands were on point.
For any modern game development, community feedback is crucial, and it allowed Blizzard to help Diablo 4 regain its lost player base. However, the very same community feedback is now becoming an issue for Blizzard’s development of the game.
The problem is that Diablo 4‘s development team is now under heavy pressure to serve the loudest voices in the player base, and that’s leading to questionable decisions.
Due to constant community outrages, we’re looking at inconsistent changes and updates in the game that feel, at best, experimental rather than polished. What’s worse is that gamers who want the title to stick to Blizzard’s original vision are getting alienated.
It’s really time for Blizzard to wake up and come up with a strong vision for the future of Diablo 4. Sure, player feedback is crucial to developing new features, but players must not end up ruling every aspect of the game. Diablo as a franchise has always succeeded with bold decisions by Blizzard, not community demands.
Diablo 4‘s biggest rival, Path of Exile 2, recently debuted in early access this month. Although the action RPG might not boast the same rich history as Diablo, it has proven itself to be a strong competitor. It’s clear that Blizzard is facing the heat and, to hold its ground, is offering players a free dive into the game.
Currently, fans can experience Diablo 4 for completely free, including the game’s brand-new Spiritborn class. It’s not the first time we’ve seen Blizzard giving out limited-time access for its Diablo games, but it’s the first time that a new class will be available for absolutely free.
The promotion lasts from December 20 through January 3. This gives gamers enough time to immerse themselves in the rich world of Diablo 4. It’s great to see that this limited-time offer is giving access to the Spiritborn class and a huge range of other options.
If you like the experience and want to permanently add Diablo 4 to your collection, the game is up for sale for up to 40% on Xbox and PlayStation PC.
With that said, would you like to see Blizzard switch up the community-driven decisions in Diablo 4? Let us know in the comments below.
