Riot Games to Merge SEA League of Legends Servers

Riot Games is gearing up to revolutionize the League of Legends experience in Southeast Asia (SEA) with a groundbreaking server merge and an innovative seasonal model. These updates, set to take effect with Patch 15.1 on January 9, 2025, are designed to enhance gameplay, strengthen community bonds, and create a more dynamic gaming environment for players in India and across the region.

The highly anticipated SEA server merge will unite players from Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore/Malaysia, and Indonesia onto a single platform. This consolidation will lead to several advantages:

  • Faster Matchmaking: Reduced queue times and more balanced matches.
  • Improved Latency: Lower ping and smoother gameplay for most players.
  • Seamless Transition: Players’ Riot IDs, champions, skins, and account progress will be automatically transferred.

Furthermore, this merger opens up new avenues for esports, particularly for regions like India, as the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) will incorporate additional wild card slots in its Promotion and Relegation (P&R) structure.

Seasonal Model Update

Riot Games to Merge SEA League of Legends Servers

The 2025 seasonal model will introduce a fresh perspective on League of Legends content delivery. Players can anticipate three distinct seasons each year, each brimming with new champions, game modes, events, skins, and captivating narratives. The inaugural season will spotlight the enigmatic region of Noxus, delving deeper into its lore and introducing exciting updates such as Viktor’s Visual Gameplay Update (VGU) and the formidable new champion, Atakhan.

These updates mark a significant step forward for League of Legends in Southeast Asia. By merging servers, we’re not only delivering a seamless and more competitive gaming experience but also creating a united community that fosters growth across borders. The SEA server merge allows players to connect with a larger, more diverse pool of competitors while expanding esports opportunities for emerging markets like India. The seasonal model, on the other hand, is designed to reimagine how players experience League of Legends. With three distinct seasons annually, we’re bringing fresh champions, modes, and immersive narratives that will keep players engaged year-round. Together, these updates embody our commitment to shaping the League of Legends ecosystem as a global and inclusive platform for competition, community, and storytelling.

These updates align with Riot’s broader vision of elevating SEA’s esports scene. The unified server will provide aspiring teams in India and the region with greater visibility and opportunities to compete in prestigious tournaments like the MSI and Worlds.
