Nintendo Switch Fans May Have to Wait Until the Switch 2 Officially Drops, as Pocketpair CEO Hints that Palworld is too Much for the Console

There’s no doubt that Palworld became an overnight success as soon as it hit Early Access on Xbox consoles and PCs. The game managed to break all records and expectations as players wanted to experience what the so-called “Pokémon with guns” game was all about.

With the incredible hype Palworld is still generating online, Nintendo Switch owners might feel a bit left out and wondering when they could get a chance to play this survival phenomenon. Unfortunately, it looks like they might have to wait till the release of Switch 2.

Palworld Developer Says Switch Release Is Not Possible Due to Various Reasons

Currently, Palworld is only available on Xbox consoles and PCs, meaning both PlayStation and Nintendo gamers are still missing out on the phenomenon. While we have rumors swirling about a PS5 version in the works, there’s nothing but disappointment for Nintendo gamers.

Game File got the chance to sit down with Pocketpair’s CEO, Takuro Mizobe, and chat about Palworld‘s incredible journey so far and what the future holds for the game. While touching upon various aspects of the game’s development, Mizobe acknowledged that Palworld‘s specs on PC are higher than Switch’s specs, which makes it challenging to port.

So maybe it’s hard to port to Switch just for technical reasons.

While this might be frustrating for Switch gamers, Mizobe confirmed that Pocketpair is “still discussing” the possibility of bringing the game to new platforms, although he doesn’t have any updates on this at the moment.

It’s easy to forget how old the Nintendo Switch is now. The console was released back in 2017 in the middle of the last generation’s hardware cycle. Even though Palworld isn’t the most demanding title out there, its specs would have to be massively pulled back to run on Switch.

However, given that the Switch successor is already confirmed to be coming, we have to wonder if Nintendo and Pocketpair will strike up discussions to bring Palworld to the latest system.

When is Nintendo Switch 2 Coming Out?

Rumors regarding Nintendo’s highly-anticipated sequel to the Switch console have been somewhat scattered in the last couple of months. Early leaks suggested that Switch 2 will be out by the end of 2024 at the latest, but apparently, these plans have been scrapped due to many internal concerns.

Later leaks suggested that Switch 2’s launch was moved to early 2025, leaving time for the company to bring additional upgrades to the console to better compete in the modern gaming console market.

While multiple reports suggest Switch 2 will be released as early as January 2025, most of them settled for a debut in March 2025.

Unfortunately, it seems like Switch fans might have to wait for the next-gen iteration, as Nintendo has officially confirmed that the next console will launch later than expected.

According to GamesIndustry.biz’s translations of the company’s earning Q&A, president Shuntaro Furukawa has revealed that Switch 2 isn’t a part of its forecast for the next fiscal year, which is set to end on March 31, 2025. This means Switch 2 won’t be released until April 2025 at the earliest.
