“Find the truth”: Perfect Dark Explodes onto the Next-Gen with Deux Ex-esque Gameplay with a Cyberpunk 2077 Open-World, after Xbox Games Showcase Trailer Leaves Fans Weary of Being Disappointed Again

During the Xbox Games Showcase, which was broadcast on June 9 2024, a trailer was shown for the upcoming reboot of 2000’s Perfect Dark, and it seems like Microsoft is looking to capitalize on the popularity of the cyberpunk setting. But it also seems like they are trying to throw other games into the concoction.

Cyberpunk 2077 was a highly anticipated title because CD Projekt Red’s previous works were chartbusters commercially and received critical acclaim. Despite the game’s tumultuous, the studio bounced back and won people over, especially with Phantom Liberty.

With a Cyberpunk 2077-Esque Setting Fluid Movement, and a Wingsuit, Perfect Dark Has Everything

The game’s trailer began with cinematic footage showing what appears to be the game’s protagonist deploying their wingsuit and jumping off a plane. While gameplay footage with the wingsuit wasn’t shown, it is a fair assumption that it could be one of the traversal media in the game.

In typical Cyberpunk 2077 fashion, the gameplay footage also showed the usage of futuristic gadgets to bypass a security system based on voice recognition. But the game’s plot and central theme seem much more righteous than the CD Projekt Red RPG.

A lot of stealth was also shown in the trailer, but whether the game will be stealth-centric like Deus Ex is unknown. The player movement in Perfect Dark also looked incredibly fluid and might remind viewers of the parkour mechanism in games like Dying Light and sliding like Titanfall. We also saw bullet time in the trailer, adding to the lengthy list of mechanics gamers are familiar with.

Perfect Dark is Looking Terrific

While it is impossible to comment on the game’s quality using just the announcement trailer for reference, it contained a lot of gameplay footage. And it very well could be the win that Xbox needs against PlayStation.

Overall, it seems like Perfect Dark has taken inspiration from many popular titles and seems incredibly ambitious. However, it doesn’t look novel, and if not executed properly, it will be called a clone of any of the mentioned games, if not a mixture of them. A great remake should go beyond what the original did in terms of creativity.

Fans of the original are already beginning to diss the reboot:

On the other hand, some  fans are visibly excited:

But the game’s first look deserves credit where it’s due, and if it is not a case of false marketing, it might be the next big thing in the market. All of it boils down to how well the developer executes such a game featuring mechanics from popular titles.

It is funny how things have came full circle The new Perfect Dark game is borrowing game design concepts from games inspired by the original Perfect Dark. Let’s just hope that it pans out.

What did you think of the game’s announcement trailer, and do you feel it will be another AAA title or will it surpass expectations? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
