“People might be disappointed on the first day”: Former Rockstar Dev Believes GTA 6 Might Struggle With People’s Expectations

GTA 6 is a title everyone will be eager to play once it releases in the fall of 2025. The title will mark Rockstar Games’ next venture after its previous work took the entire gaming industry by storm.

The studio has seen a lot of success throughout the video game series’ life cycle, but the last title has upped the ante for the entire industry. However, this could end up backfiring for the studio’s upcoming title.

Former Rockstar Developer Says That GTA 6 Might Subvert Expectations

The studio’s titles inspire, innovate, and impress all at the same time. The trend began from the first game in the series, which was a game-changer, and was continued by later entries.

Former Rockstar Games employees have gone on record to share details about how the studio manages to make games. Former Rockstar employees like ‘Lazlowhave stated how the studio’s approach differs from the norm in the industry.

This time, it is Obbe Vermeij, a former Rockstar developer. Vermeij has worked on some incredibly iconic titles like GTA IV and San Andreas in the series.

When asked about his impressions of the upcoming game during his interview with YouTuber SanInPlay, the developer stated that the beach sequence in the game’s first trailer was impressive.

However, something crucial was shared by him a moment later:

I don’t think it’s going to be widly different from GTA 5. I think people might be disappointed on the first day. But it’s still gonna be the best game out there.

Overall, the former professional at the studio concluded by saying that everything portrayed in the first trailer looked as authentic as it could have been.

Readers might have known about the leaks before the studio announced the game’s development. A hacker shared a whopping number of video files. This incident also led to many leaks and rumors around the game surfacing.

Talking about those rumors and leaks, Vermeij stated the following in his interview:

There’s some rumors of pretty new technology having to do with Animation and AI…But I don’t know…I think there’s time for a revolution where animation is not hand animated anymore, but more AI driven and physics-driven.

While it is uncertain what the marquee offerings of the upcoming open-world game from Rockstar will be, one thing is sure: it has big shoes to fill. Many of its predecessors, especially its immediate ones, were phenomenons when they came out.

So, if the game can’t meet the expectations, its response might not be as good as its predecessors.

What do you think of the upcoming game so far? Would it be as good or even better as its predecessor? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
