“Itemization is what made me quit”: Even the Hard Core Diablo Fans Didn’t Love Diablo 4, What Went Wrong With It?

The Diablo franchise has been around for the past few years and has grown throughout time. The iconic gaming franchise was renowned for its hack-and-slash gameplay and the latest installment may have taken a wrong turn that caused even the hardcore fans to turn their backs on the game. Players can unlock powerful gear and equipment throughout their playthrough; however, not everyone was thrilled to manage their resources manually.

Change is inevitable; however, not everything is beneficial. Fans were vocal about how they disliked the resource management setting of the franchise.

The Gaming Community Was Not a Fan of the Resource Management in Diablo 4

Gaming is an expensive form of therapy for others, and has plenty of great benefits, especially for the likes of Elon Musk with extremely stressful jobs. Gaming is one avenue where he can unwind from all the pressures of life and use the in-game mechanics to train his mind to do different tasks in real life like resource management. Musk is a fan of games with intense difficulty, like Elden Ring, and finds the ability to slay powerful enemies as his outlet to unwind.

Diablo 4 was released a year ago and was a financial success, and has reached insane numbers for the active daily player count. However, the player base has issues with the latest installment and some fans are completely oblivious about the problem.

Why do people not like diablo 4?

Not everything the game developers implement in a game will be well-received. Especially if it is a feature that takes time and great effort since most players prefer a fast-paced experience, and it could ruin the state of flow by opening a menu to move items and go through different tabs can be a massive chore.

Sorting items is not a fan-favorite activity within the gaming community, and Diablo 4 players were vocal about how they didn’t appreciate this feature in the latest installment. Not everyone is interested in pumping the brakes off the combat to itemize every item they have collected in their playthrough. Resource management has its benefits, but in 2024, when most games offer a much more convenient method to handle their items automatically, the developers of Blizzard Entertainment should have seen this become a problem.

The gaming community is optimistic about the game developers taking this feedback and making the necessary changes and improvements at a later time. The Vessel of Hatred expansion is said to be making changes like increasing the level cap of characters, new skills for each respective class, reworking the difficulty, and many more. The update is expected to drop sometime next month and it is a positive sign that the developers have not given up on the project and are adamant to improve it any way they can.

The Diablo Community Refuses to Think Critically About Resource Management

The gaming community fails to consider the benefits of resource management and manual itemization. Players will learn to conduct themselves better in video games and to avoid excessive use of certain resources, especially those in higher rarity. Strategically placing items in the right slots could lead to impressive gameplay benefits.

Perhaps Blizzard Entertainment could have done better to sort these items better. Fans are bothered by the complicated system implemented in the original version and taking the time to assess whether a single item is an upgrade or a better version of the item they are currently equipped with.

The developers have been working on various updates for the fourth season, and it is slowly changing the game for the better. There is still hope that the game developers will improve the resource management system and give the gaming community the convenient experience they want.

Blizzard Entertainment tried something different but didn’t land the way they hoped. The developers can charge this to experience and avoid making the same mistake.
