Genshin Impact's 4.1 update introduces a variety of new content, including brand-new areas, characters, and a range of different enemies that players will encounter during their explorations. Alongside the introduction of new bosses, local legends, and the hidden boss Thorny Cyst, the update also brings a new category of elite enemies, known as Fatui Operatives. Similar to various other enemy types in the game, Fatui Operatives come in multiple variants, in this instance, two, each with slightly different move sets that players must pay attention to.
Upon defeating Fatui Operatives, players will be able to obtain Old Operative's Pocket Watch, Operative's Standard Pocket Watch, and Operative's Constancy. These items serve as weapon ascension materials and are crucial for enhancing specific new weapons like The Dockhand's Assistant (sword) and Wriothesley's signature weapon, Cashflow Supervision (catalyst). Given the limited availability of these enemies in the game at this time, players aiming to upgrade these weapons are strongly advised to start farming Fatui Operatives in Genshin Impact as soon as possible.
Updated on November 20th, 2023, by Elara Leclair: With the release of Genshin Impact's version 4.2 update, players have been introduced to a plethora of new content, including the continuation of the Archon quest, the addition of playable characters Furina and Charlotte, engaging events, and the unveiling of two new regions, Morte and Erinnyes Forest. Alongside these exciting additions, the enemy landscape has seen some changes, with the introduction of new foes and the expansion of existing ones to facilitate material farming. Notably, the number of Fatui Operatives has increased from 8 to 20, providing players with additional challenges and opportunities for resource farming.
Taking down Fatui Operatives is generally a straightforward task since they don't possess immunity to any specific elements. However, they do have higher HP compared to regular enemies, which means battles against them may be more time-consuming. These operatives come in two variants: Wind and Frost Fatui Operatives. Wind Fatui Operatives employ Anemo attacks with a larger AoE, while Frost Fatui Operatives utilize Cryo attacks. It's worth noting that if players don't avoid Frost Fatui Operatives' attacks, especially when they encounter them near shorelines, they may get frozen often. Overall, while the battles against Fatui Operatives may take longer due to their higher HP, they should not pose a significant difficulty, especially when players are prepared to deal with their respective elemental attacks.
Both variants of Fatui Operatives share a common attack type known as "Hunt Down," which marks the active character. If a character is struck by this attack, they will be afflicted with the "Bond of Life" mechanic, similar to certain weapon abilities with the same effect. Bond of Life prevents the character from regenerating HP, much like some recent weapons that impose this restriction. While this effect naturally dissipates over time, players can promptly dispel it by either visiting a Statue of The Seven or by healing their character to exceed the amount of HP indicated by the Bond of Life. Once the character's HP is restored beyond this threshold, the effect will be automatically dispelled.
Given this mechanic, it is highly recommended that players include a healer in their party when farming Fatui Operatives. Doing so will allow them to avoid the need to visit Statues of The Seven frequently.
As of now, there are a total of 20 locations where players can find Fatui Operatives, considering both variants and excluding the Local Legend variant, Yseut the Cold Hand. These locations are primarily concentrated along the shoreline in the Liffey region, as well as around New Fontaine Research Institute area, the western mainland of Morte region with a few isolated spots near other areas.
For those who may be missing some of these operatives or can't find them can take great advantage of utilizing the Adventurer's Handbook to track them as they are limited in numbers. This way, players can ensure that they have not missed out on any of them. In the provided map above, players can easily distinguish between Wind Fatui Operatives (numbered in green) and Frost Fatui Operatives (numbered in light blue). Players can also watch the video above to follow along the route to find them.
In the Liffey region, players can have an efficient route for the 6 Fatui Operatives by starting from the Statue of The Seven within this region and proceeding westward towards the shoreline. Here, they will encounter two of these operatives: the first one stands alone, while the second is situated within a group of other Fatui members at a camp just before a waterfall. After passing the waterfall, players will immediately find two more operatives. One is positioned on the middle island formation, while the other is located along the shoreline of the main Mont Esus East area.
From this point onward, to reach the last two operatives, players have two options: they can continue along the road or use the nearby teleport point to the northwest and then head north along the designated route. Following the road, players will encounter another patrolling Fatui Operative close to another Fatui camp (though not among them). Subsequently, they will need to proceed straight north off the road to locate the final Fatui Operative perched on a cliff, alongside some Crystalflies.
When targeting the standalone Fatui Operatives, players are advised to make use of nearby teleport points since these operatives are quite close to them. For the first standalone operative, players can teleport to the most northeastern teleport point (located north of the Central Laboratory Ruins). Here, they will find the Fatui Operative situated within a small camp to the west, alongside some other Fatui Skirmishers.
To locate the last standalone operative, players should teleport to the point north of the New Fontaine Research Institute. From this teleport point, they need to head northeast, passing through the valley. Eventually, they will encounter the Fatui Operative on a cliff close to the current regional borders.
In this version update, new enemies have been added not only to the newly introduced regions but also to existing areas. The Liffey Area route, in particular, has seen some additions, with one enemy located above the waterfall and another along the shoreline. While incorporating the one above the waterfall might require some effort to optimize the farming route, the enemy on the shoreline is easily accessible for players following the previously established route. Players can address the already existing locations of Fatui Operatives in this area (made more transparent) to see the respective locations of the newly added two enemies nearby.
Additionally, the New Fontaine Research Area has now added three new spots for players to farm. All of these enemies are quite close to the nearby teleport point. Players can start by heading towards the one on the coast and follow the route. Lastly, there has been a standalone Fatui Operative added to the map near the Experimental Field Generator boss. Players can use the nearby teleport point to reach the Fatui Operative. Alternatively, those who prefer not to climb up a hill can use the southeastern teleport point nearby, heading downwards until they encounter the Fatui Operative.
While Erinnyes Forest hasn't received any new Fatui Operative spots in the 4.2 update, the Morte region has six convenient spots for players to add to their farming routes. Most of these Fatui Operatives are quite close to the teleport points; however, even without them, it is possible to follow along a line quite easily without needing to teleport each time in between.
Players should start from the teleport point on the northern part of this main area and proceed to the first Fatui Operative nearby. Afterward, it's best to teleport to the point near the Fatui Operative marked as 2, as this is above the cliff, and then head down to the camp below to collect the 3rd one as well. After this, players can either take the teleport point on this spot's east to get the next two Fatui Operatives or simply walk to the area. For the last Fatui Operative, it's recommended that players head southwards towards it from this spot. There is also a teleport point near this spot; however, as this particular teleport spot is in a cave, players will need to spend some time getting to the Fatui Operative after teleporting, which may not make it as convenient as other teleport points nearby.
