A while back, Fortnite added gold bars as a Battle Royale resource. Players can collect gold in-game by eliminating enemies, opening cash registers, breaking down gold bar stacks, and opening safes and chests. They can hold a maximum of 5,000 bars in their inventory before they reach the cap and are unable to collect more. To avoid this, they must spend their gold.
Chapter 5 Season 1 added weapon modifications to Fortnite. While some weapons already have plenty of mods, players can add, remove, and change them as they please, as long as they have enough gold to do so. This guide will tell players everything they need to know about weapon mods in Fortnite, including where to find Mod Benches on the map and which mods they can apply to their weapons.
There are only six Mod Benches in Fortnite, and most of them are relatively complicated to reach since they are inside a high-security vault. Vaults can only be opened with Society Medallions, which are guarded by specific bosses. Each boss defends a named location, so here is where players will find the characters that they must fight to unlock the vaults:
After grabbing a location's medallion, players must go down to the vault and open it by standing near the scanner by the door. Inside, there is a Weapon Mod Bench that they can use as they please.
The last Mod Bench can be found in the basement of the house on the Floating Island. However, the island only spawns during the fourth Storm of the match, which is pretty close to the late-game stage of the match. If players want to modify their weapons before then, they will have to get into a vault.
The Weapon Mod Bench has four mod categories: optic mods, magazine mods, underbarrel mods, and barrel mods. Players can navigate through them and decide which one fits their needs. It costs 75 gold to equip a mod.
Except for Common Weapons, Fortnite weapons will immediately spawn with one or several mods. Thankfully, it doesn't cost a dime to remove mods from a weapon. This means that if gamers find a weapon that they enjoy with a mod that they dislike, they can get rid of it for free and then apply another mod for only 75 gold bars.
Here are all the weapon mods available on the Mod Bench in Fortnite:
