Epic Games announces withdrawal of Fortnite from the Samsung Galaxy Store

Samsung Galaxy Store users will need to find an alternative way of downloading Fortnite as Epic Games has announced the withdrawal of its highly popular battle royale from the store. The decision comes as a protest against Samsung’s move to block side-loading by default on its Android devices and follows revelations from the Epic v Google lawsuit.

On the 25th of July, 2024, Epic Games posted on their official website regarding the company’s new game strategy for Mobile Stores. While mentioning Fortnite’s highly anticipated return to iOS devices in the European Union, they also mentioned that the Epic Games Store will soon be available on Android devices worldwide.

Epic Games is removing Fortnite and its other games from the Samsung Galaxy Store in protest of Samsung’s move to block side-loading by default on new Android devices. Just a few days earlier, Samsung announced that its latest models, including the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Fold6, will have side-loading blocked by default.

However, the makers also shared the details regarding featuring Fortnite across other app stores as well. Epic announced plans to bring its mobile games to AltStore on iOS in the EU and anticipates announcing support for at least two other third-party stores soon.

The Epic Games Store offers developers favourable terms, including a 12% store fee for Epic-processed payments and no fee for third-party payments. Alongside, Epic will stop partnering with mobile stores they see as unfair, even if those stores offer special deals for Epic’s games. This is part of their effort to promote fair competition in app stores on iOS and Android.
