Diablo 4 Season 4: Gear Up for a Leveling Revolution

Season 4 of Diablo 4 is just around the corner, and it's shaping up to be the Season of Variety. One of the key areas that is receiving a much-needed refinement in Season 4 is leveling. We understand that hitting a progression wall before feeling powerful can be frustrating, so we are introducing Gear Rarity & Purpose to address this issue. Through this reinvention of gear mechanics, we are providing players with more tools to scale that wall and progress smoothly through their leveling journey. Whether it's enhancing the base armor on Commons, introducing speedrun/streamlined runs with Magics, or unlocking new slots and affixes for Legendaries+, our aim is to offer players more options and a sense of progression as they level up.

Affixes are another aspect that we are looking to refine based on player feedback. To streamline the game and make affixes more meaningful and impactful, we are planning to reduce the number of affixes by approximately 35%. Some affixes will be completely removed, while others will be integrated into endgame activities. This adjustment aims to alleviate choice anxiety and reduce reliance on build guides, allowing players to explore different playstyles and experiment with their builds.

In Season 4, we are also revamping Gear Rarity to create a more dynamic and rewarding gear progression system. Currently, gear feels stagnant, with Commons being considered inferior, Magics slightly better, and Rares serving as mere stepping stones to Legendary Gear. However, we want to change that perception. By improving the base armor on Commons, scaling affixes on Magics, and introducing new slots and affixes for Legendaries+, we aim to make each piece of gear feel significant and provide players with more options to customize their characters and increase build variety.

Choice anxiety is a common concern among players, as they fear making the wrong choices that could cost them hours of gameplay to undo. In response to this, our focus in Season 4 is to provide more ways to play the game. By expanding the options available to players, we hope to reduce reliance on build guides and encourage experimentation. Whether it's through the introduction of new gear options, alternative runs, or different playstyles, our goal is to give players the freedom to explore and find their own path in the Diablo universe.
