‘He makes them flop on purpose’: Armie Hammer’s ‘The Dark Knight’ Is as Bad as It Sounds and It’s Not Just for Trying to Rip-off the Greatest Batman Movie

After a year of being dropped off all charges following allegations of s*xual misconduct, Armie Hammer is planning on making a comeback with his starring role in Uwe Boll’s The Dark Knight. Set to play a crime-fighting vigilante (which sounds pretty darn similar to Christopher Nolan’s DC movie), Hammer’s return is picking up some steam on social media.

While Armie Hammer claimed to be super excited about his role in Uwe Boll’s The Dark Knight, during an exclusive interview with Variety, netizens began slamming the project, even before it picked up production. Highlighting how Boll is often considered the “world’s worst director”, social media users seemingly warned Hammer as well as audiences against the project.

Armie Hammer is making notorious headlines for starring in Uwe Boll’s The Dark Knight

Famously known for his appearance alongside Timothée Chalamet in Call Me by Your Name, Armie Hammer had previously faced a serious halt in his career, after allegations of s*xual misconduct and cannibalism in 2021. However, after recently being cleared of all charges, the actor planned on making a comeback.

Surprisingly, according to his exclusive interview with Variety, the actor seemed to have made a rather controversial choice, in regards to his Hollywood comeback. During his discussion, Armie Hammer told the outlet about his plans to star in the titular role of a vigilante named Sanders, in German director Uwe Boll’s latest project, The Dark Knight

Further, considering how the upcoming movie sounds very similar to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight—in regards to title and plot—executive producer Michael Roesch assured that the project is set to be very different from the DC movie. But despite repeated reassurance, netizens failed to divert their minds from conjuring up images of DC’s caped crusader.

Additionally, considering Boll’s track record of poorly received films—including box office disasters like Alone in the Dark—netizens argued that Armie Hammer’s choice to collaborate with such a filmmaker might be a risky move, especially since he’s planning on making a comeback.

Netizens began warning Armie Hammer and audiences against Uwe Boll’s infamous title

As the news about Armie Hammer‘s collaboration with Uwe Boll on The Dark Knight went viral, social media erupted with skepticism and outrage surrounding the film. Netizens took to X to voice their concerns, with many claiming how Boll could damage Hammer’s already fragile reputation, especially with the project seeming awfully similar to one of the most celebrated superhero movies of all time.

Well, considering how Uwe Boll has been regularly cited as the world’s worst director, it seems netizens aren’t wrong to feel worried about Armie Hammer’s upcoming collaboration. Back in 2009, Boll had received the Razzie Award for Worst Career Achievement for his cinematic failures and was even accused of using the German tax shelter laws to keep working despite his movies routinely failing to break even at the box office (via The Guardian).

Additionally, rarely any movie of Uwe Boll has even managed to earn a 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with most of his films stumbling at a meager 4-9% RT score. Therefore, considering such notoriety of the director, pairing him with an actor who’s trying to recover from public scandals, seemed rather dreadful for netizens. But then, despite criticism, both Hammer and Boll appeared adamant, with executive producer Michael Roesch appearing optimistic about the film.

The Dark Knight is scheduled to begin principal photography in Croatia on January 27.
