Erika Ishii is confirmed to be the new face of the Ghost franchise as Atsu. The voice actor has been around for quite a while and had the pleasure of working in other iconic video game franchises. There is no telling what they could deliver in this exciting new chapter of the Ghost franchise and fans are equally eager to see how Atsu will stand apart from Jin Sakai.

It can be daunting to be the lead of a major franchise and the game developers of Sucker Punch Productions have complete and utter faith in Ishii’s skills and acting chops. The Ghost of Tsushima franchise is the next major first-party PlayStation Studios property that will be receiving a live-action adaptation from John Wick: Chapter 4 director Chad Stahelski and the recent victory of Hiroyuki Sanada during the Emmy Awards as the Best Lead Actor could secure him a role in the live-action adaptation, both Erika Ishii and Hiroyuki Sanada had great filmography and this could take it even further.

Ishii has worked on other great franchises like Apex Legends, Fallout 76, and Cyberpunk 2077. Being the lead of the Ghost of Yotei is a great opportunity for their career as a voice actor for video games. There is no telling if Ishii did all the physical requirements as Atsu, especially with the combat and swordplay; nevertheless, Sucker Punch Productions is fortunate to have a talented actor working alongside them to bring this project to life.

Voice actors rarely get the recognition and appreciation they deserve. Hopefully, Ishii’s name will not get buried and receive the praise they are highly due for a great performance. Being propelled into the spotlight as the new lead of a major franchise must be an overwhelming feeling for Ishii and without a doubt, they gave it their all as Atsu.

Atsu is a new character who was not around during the original Ghost of Tsushima timeline, and she could be directly related to Jin Sakai as his descendant 300 years into the future.

The game developers spent years working on the Ghost of Yotei and will take everything great about the original game and give the gaming community something fresh and unique. While it is sad that the original cast of the first game may not reprise their roles but could always play other characters, Ishii has a lot of potential and the looming shadow of the performances of the first game will inspire them to do a great job.

The gaming community is enthusiastic to take control over a female samurai warrior with much more refined combat and gameplay mechanics. Atsu was fortunate to take center stage during an era with much more advanced weaponry than Jin Sakai ever had access to.

The game developers of Sucker Punch Productions knew the first game was a massive endeavor and if they were to replicate its success with a sequel, it would take time to perfect. Game development has reached a new level where games are much more breathtaking to look at than real life and the studio wants to maintain the momentum from the first game with realistic and beautiful landscapes and vistas.

Ishii made a name for themselves after working on various projects and her filmography is more than enough to convince the developers that they are right for the role of Atsu. Hopefully, their performance could rival Daisuke Tsuji as Jin Sakai from the base game or even surpass it in different ways.

Sucker Punch Productions knew the Ghost of Tsushima franchise would take off and wanted to explore beyond the tale of Jin. While there is no solid proof of the two protagonists being directly related, it is worth noting that Jin was a nobody until the gaming community gave the game a chance and Atsu deserves the same treatment.
