British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), the UK equivalent of the Oscars, released their nominations earlier today. Although the 78th British Academy Film Award Ceremony is to be held on February 16, 2025 fans and critics alike are already taken aback.

The BAFTA 2025 nominations have sparked outrage and debate in the entertainment industry. Despite delivering standout performances that captivated audiences, some stars were shockingly overlooked. Here’s a closer look at the actors who were snubbed.

The BAFTA 2025 nominations have left fans and critics baffled as several amazing performances were snubbed. Nicole Kidman, praised for her mesmerizing role in Babygirl, wasn’t on the list for the Best Actress category. Although she wasn’t able to win at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards, there were high hopes that she would be nominated at BAFTA 2025. 

Even more shocking was the omission of Denzel Washington from the list. He is one of the best actors with strong performances and two Oscar wins. Yet, his supporting role in Gladiator II didn’t get a nomination for the BAFTA 2025 Awards or even the Screen Actors Guild Awards. This may be a sign that he won’t be getting his 10th nomination for the Oscars this year.

The Substance got 11 BAFTA longlist mentions, yet ended up with only 5 BAFTA Award nominations. Despite critics’ constant praise of Margaret Qualley’s brilliant performance, she was also overlooked for her supporting role. 

The most shocking of all was Queer’s star Daniel Craig. He was recently nominated by the Screen Actors Guild Awards which only has five nominations yet he wasn’t nominated for the BAFTA 2025 Awards where there are six. 

These exclusions are particularly confusing given the consistent praise these actors have received from both fans and critics. Competition is high right now in the entertainment industry. Despite giving their all, some actors can’t make it to the finish line at these prestigious awards not because their performances were bad but because there can only be one winner.

Surprise or not, these actors have taken the entertainment industry by storm to deliver a performance so insane that they just had to be nominated for the BAFTA Awards. 

The less-popular movie Sing Sing had three BAFTA 2025 longlist mentions and it converted them all. The most surprising conversion was Clarence Maclin who is now on his way to potentially winning the Best Supporting Actor award. This is a good sign that the crew got nominated at the Oscars.

Jamie Lee Curtis, an Oscar winner wasn’t in the running for a BAFTA 2025 Award nomination this year. Yet somehow she secured the nomination after just receiving the Screen Actors Guild Awards nomination last week. 

After being nominated for multiple awards for her performances in Brooklyn, Lady Bird, and Little Women, Saoirse Ronan has secured her place in the industry as a great actor it should come as no surprise that she delivered a stunning performance in The Outrun. 

Yet, as the year passed, critics and fans were less convinced that she would be nominated at all. Surprisingly, after being out of the race, she got a BAFTA 2025 Awards nomination after The Outrun landed on the Best British Film list.

Nevertheless, this is just the beginning of the awards season with Hollywood’s mightiest celebratory night upcoming – the Oscars. Fans just need to wait and see if their favorite actors and movies take home the honor.
