Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC has a series of decisive moments that lead to its different endings. Players have voiced frustrations over the lack of player agency, especially with how rigid Bethesda is about unkillable NPCs and the fixed nature of certain outcomes.
The DLC has a lot of different choices that seemingly impact the narrative, but one ending in particular has left fans feeling deeply unsatisfied. In this outcome, the player can reject all the House leaders, only to be cast out and denied any meaningful consequences. Many believe that Bethesda should have broken their own rules for this finale.
One of the more disliked endings in Shattered Space involves telling the leaders of Va’ruun’kai that none of them are fit to lead. This decision results in the player being banished from the planet of Dazra, cutting off any remaining side quests and progress within the planet.
Shattered Space: Worst Ending Choice

There is no reward or satisfying conclusion, just a dismissal that leaves the player unsatisfied. Many fans believe that if the game had allowed them to take more drastic actions, such as eliminating the leaders, it would have made the ending more fulfilling.
Many fans feel that Bethesda’s insistence on keeping certain NPCs invincible only worsens the situation. Throughout Starfield, several characters remain unkillable, a limitation that continues in Shattered Space.
Players have pointed out that in a game centered around the freedom of space exploration and infinite possibilities, not being able to eliminate key figures—especially those who betray or undermine the protagonist—feels like a missed opportunity.

The lack of consequence in rejecting the House leaders shows how lacking the story is. Throughout Shattered Space, players are given the illusion of choice such as picking which House should lead Va’ruun’kai but these decisions ultimately amount to minor differences.
The more radical option of declaring no House worthy to rule results in little more than expulsion from Dazra and hostility from the faction, offering no deeper ramifications for the galaxy or the player’s journey.
To make matters worse, the DLC doesn’t offer much beyond its questline. Unlike other expansions, Shattered Space fails to introduce significant new mechanics or features to keep players engaged.
Alright, so I just wrapped up Starfield Shattered Space. I can say without a doubt, this was disappointing. If you're expecting this to be the DLC to sway people to give Starfield another chance, just keep on walking, because it's going to be more of the same for the most part. pic.twitter.com/UR8Qp2oPGF

Players hoped for new ship mechanics, outpost features, or even just unique tools that could make the experience more engaging. Unfortunately, Shattered Space fails to deliver on these expectations, making it feel more like a leftover piece of the main game rather than a fresh, exciting expansion.
While the base game of Starfield is designed to encourage exploration and player freedom, Shattered Space funnels players into a linear path where every choice feels inconsequential.
Whether you choose to support one of the three houses or reject all of them, the outcome barely changes. This lack of variance is frustrating for a game that touts itself as being all about choices. When the consequences don’t matter, the experience feels flat.
