“I was quickly losing interest…”: 1 Side Quest in Starfield May Be Better Than the Lacklustre Main Quest, Proving Bethesda are Better Suited at the Small Details, Not the Big Picture

Starfield, Bethesda’s latest space odyssey-inspired RPG has generated a massive fanbase among gamers. However, the same fans are finding the main quest utterly disappointing saying that it lacks depth and content on the whole. As a result, fans are taking to social media to express their sentiment, saying that Bethesda has yet again delivered an underdeveloped main story.

However, they pointed out that the video gaming giant excels at creating detailed side quests, with many praising Terrormorph as the highlight of the entire space RPG. This is similar to what has been seen in previous games, particularly the beloved Oblivion.

Starfield Terrormorph Should Have Been the Main Questline

One Reddit user posed a question about what video game side quest story was better than the game’s main story, and many fans of Bethesda’s RPG are saying that Terrormorph is the narrative they should have gone with.

The Terrormorph questline is full of dark twists and with its mysterious plot, players feel Bethesda should have expanded it to a mainline quest.

It is a prime example of how the famous developer handles side quests in its games. The quest starts as a routine delivery mission but then takes a surprisingly dark turn when a player encounters an alien creature.

The investigation leads you to a fight for survival in the capital city after a Terrormorph attack. Players will face shocking truths about a war criminal and will be tasked with whether to expose the war criminal’s existence.

This quest will take players through the embassies of the three major factions to gain critical information, making it feel much more important than the main story’s focus on collecting mysterious artifacts.

Starfield isn’t the only game from the company that has a better side quest than a main story. Fans have unified to praise some of the many side content seen in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

The Dark Brotherhood quests, in particular, earned writer Emil Pagliarulo significant acclaim and a rise through the company ranks. This trend continued with Skyrim, in which side quests like those from the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood once again stood out.

Similarly, Fallout 4‘s Far Harbor DLC received much praise for the change in atmosphere from the base game, and a plot far more interesting than the entire Fallout 4 brought to the table.

The developer has always known how to make interesting side quests that will keep players in the game without touching a mainline quest for hours.

This title is no exception to this practice with its vast universe to explore and many side quests to complete, including the Terrormorph questline. While the main story has fallen short of the game’s potential and fans’ hopes, the space RPG still has a lot to offer for all Galaxy adventure buffs.

What do you think? Can a fantastic side quest redeem a lackluster main story? Let us know in the comments below.
