Stardew Valley is open to mods: it's fine as long as they can be distinguished from official content

Eric Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, recently said in an interview with PC Gamer that it supports fans creating mods as long as they can be distinguished from official content.

"I'm open to mods, and I don't mind anyone making whatever mods they want... I don't mind people adding their own fan-made stories to the game, as long as it's not canon. Only the original game is canon."

In addition, Barone recommends that players try version 1.6 without mods first to avoid confusing the official new content with the content added via mods.
