The recently released Pocket Fair game, Palworld, has become one of the best-selling games in history by selling 6 million copies in 4 days. The game takes place in an expansive environment full of “Pals,” or animal-like beings. In order to use Pals for base development discovery, and warfare, players can engage in combat and capture them. Other factors that have drawn attention include using animals for food or employing them in factories and mines.
However, many fans have claimed that the gameplay and the storyline of the entire Palworld game sound very much similar to the biggest anime franchise, Pokémon. Many have also called it a knockoff of the series and their multiple which involves catching and fighting creatures known as Pokémon.
This, although, has not affected the sales of the game as fans are still loving it and wanting to play it more and more. This means that there must be something unique to the game that has acquired fans’ and gamers’ attention so much.
There’s no denying Palworld’s resemblance to Pokémon, but whether or not it’s a complete copy is another matter. Similar to Pokémon, the game’s main objective is to capture appealing yet potentially hazardous creatures and use them to accomplish a variety of tasks.
There are some creatures that are exclusive to Palworld and some that are maybe a bit too close. However, a large number of them resemble real Pokémon. So much so that they have the exact same proportions as their Pokémon counterparts, which adds weight to the allegations that Palworld is a Pokémon rip-off.
Another resemblance between the two is that the Pal-catching devices and animations are strikingly similar to Poke Balls. This strengthens the idea among viewers that Palworld is a ripoff of the Pokémon series. Still, there is no confirmation or comment made by the creators about whether they have taken any kind of inspiration from the Pokémon franchise.
While Palworld shares a similar gameplay to Pokémon, Pokémon did not necessarily create this type of gameplay, nor is it exclusive to them. Palworld even features a gun-wielding player character, with the Pals utilizing pistols, turrets, and rocket launchers alongside them.
It does a lot to distinguish Palworld from the Pokémon series because it shows a level of violence that the latter will probably never match. Palworld has more interaction with the creatures than Pokémon, despite sharing many of the same gameplay elements.
Undoubtedly, Palworld is a synthesis of concepts, none of which are entirely unique, but none of them are taken straight out of the development process of a Pokémon game. In conclusion, despite some concerns about the design similarities, Palworld is unquestionably not a complete copy.
Palworld can be accessed early on PCs through Steam, as well as on Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
