Marvel Rivals: 3 Characters That Are So OP You Will Stop Playing With Iron Man and Wolverine

Marvel Rivals has become a sensation since its release getting over 400,000 concurrent players on Steam within its first 24 hours. Combined with a “mostly positive” Steam rating, this 6v6 hero shooter is looking to compete with the likes of Overwatch 2 in the live service genre.

The game features a roster of 33 heroes and villains from the Marvel universe at launch. While players have initially chosen to play fan-favorite characters like Iron Man and Wolverine, there have been some characters that are a bit better at their job than others. Here are three characters that have shaped the early meta in Marvel Rivals.

1. Venom is Unstoppable in Marvel Rivals

Venom is a force of nature in Marvel Rivals. As one of the tanky Vanguard characters, this fan-favorite anti-hero is a great combination of durability and crowd control, making him an irreplaceable frontline tank. His Symbiotic Resilience ability regenerates health when his HP is critically low, making him almost impossible to kill when used strategically. It also makes him beginner-friendly.

Combine that with Cellular Corrosion, which stuns enemies, and his ultimate ability, Feast of the Abyss, which deals massive damage while healing himself, and you’ve got a character capable of single-handedly turning the tide of battle. His ability to traverse terrain using his Venom Swing and climb walls with Alien Biology makes him a threat on any map. Make sure you turn off Auto Swing in the game settings to have full control of him while swinging.

2. Hela Is as Deadly in Marvel Rivals as She Is in the MCU

Hela, the Asgardian Goddess of Death is a character in the Duelist (DPS) role, and she brings unparalleled damage and control. As a Duelist character, her kit combines high mobility, damage, and crowd control which is best used to target supports and squishy characters. Piercing Night allows her to plant explosive blades that detonate and deal damage over time. Meanwhile, Soul Drainer pulls enemies together which her team can use to combo with.

Hela’s ultimate, Goddess of Death, sends her into the air to rain down a shower of powerful attacks and makes her nearly untouchable. What sets Hela apart is her adaptability. She can snipe enemies from a distance, shift positions using Astral Flock, and dominate team fights by targeting grouped enemies. But you need to be precise and accurate with your shots and make sure to keep your distance because as a DPS, she is squishy.

3. Adam Warlock – The Trusty Support

For those who prefer a more supportive but equally impactful role, Adam Warlock is one of the better Strategist characters right now. While his kit involves healing, he does it unconventionally. His Soul Bond spreads incoming damage across allies, effectively reducing its impact on any single team member. With his Avatar Life Stream ability, he has consistent healing so his team can stay in the fight longer.

Adam Warlock’s biggest strengths are his resurrection abilities. His passive, Regenerative Cocoon, allows him to revive himself, while his ultimate, Karmic Revival, brings teammates back to life. You’ll need to get a few games under your belt to find the right timings of when to revive yourself and your teammates. But once you do, he becomes one of the most feared characters on the battlefield.

Marvel Rivals‘ success isn’t just from the roster of iconic characters but also its gameplay and player-focused design. Features like battle passes that never expire and crossplay compatibility has earned it praise from players. The developers have also maintained open communication with the community, frequently seeking feedback on character additions and gameplay tweaks. This approach has solidified the game’s reputation as a player-first experience.

Have you tried out Marvel Rivals? If you do, make sure to check these characters.
