Bethesda’s Lack Of Attention To Detail In Starfield Becomes A ‘Whole Lifetime Of Disappointment’ As Players Scramble To Unlock A Few Extra Dialogues With Andreja

Bethesda Game Studios is renowned for making great video game franchises like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. These games have made a lasting impact on the gaming community and have set the bar high for what the studio is capable of. Unfortunately, Director Todd Howard’s latest original project lacked a few things that made other gaming franchises stand out, and the gaming community is not afraid to call the developers out for their shortcomings.

The casual player may not notice the level of detail in a game; however, some fans can easily pick up on it. Starfield had the advantage most games did not which is an extended development period, and the developers took it for granted and did not prioritize the little things like alternate dialogue for taking a certain path.

Bethesda Game Studios Dropped the Ball on the One Thing the Studio Is Renowned For

Game development usually takes years to complete and most modern triple-A games are prone to being delayed. Microsoft went on an aggressive acquisition spree and Bethesda Game Studios is one of the few major third-party developers acquired to bolster the Xbox first-party library. The Xbox executives initially convinced director Todd Howard to delay his latest project and take advantage of the long legal process to acquire ZeniMax in earnest.

The gaming company was renowned for great attention to detail in its projects. However, the company’s crown jewel has fumbled the bag in ways more than one which led fans to express their disappointment. Starfield was released a year ago, and Howard spoke highly about the genius of Istvan Pely and his attention to detail for the interiors of a space shuttle; however, they have overlooked other details like alternative dialogue, which is far more susceptible to the gaming community.

That was a whole lifetime of disappointment.

Other players are committed to pursuing a certain path in the game hoping it would lead to alternate content like different voice lines. One player mentioned he took the Serpent’s Embrace trait and expected Andreja to have something else to say. Alas, their efforts were wasted, since Andreja’s response was no different if they were to pursue a different path. Little details like this can ruin the experience and take away the immersion.

Todd Howard doesn’t like rushing a project to meet the release date or being pressured by the gaming community to preserve the quality of the highest order. Quality assurance is generally the most common reason for games being delayed and the lack of attention to detail in the dialogue is not doing Howard or the studio any favors.

Starfield May Have Locked down the Visuals but Could Have Done Better in Other Areas

The lack of alternate dialogue is not the only area where the developers have failed. Some players noticed the unrealistic behavior of the shopkeepers being active when most people were asleep. The developers failed to implement a realistic day and night schedule that could have amplified the immersion.

Bethesda Game Studios proudly celebrated the first anniversary of Starfield and promised a few more things will be coming as part of the Shattered Space expansion. Perhaps Howard will take all of the positive and negative feedback as constructive criticism to channel his focus on areas that could have been polished better.

The base game may have been delayed and it was a blessing in disguise; however, there wasn’t enough time for the game developers to go through every single detail in the game despite the delay, or they had no interest in going back at all and leave the game as it is for the gaming community to explore and shred apart after finding every inconsistency regardless of size.

Bethesda Game Studios had high hopes for this project, as did the gaming community. Fans wanted this game to be the ultimate gaming experience, explore the dark vacuum of space, and travel to any world they pleased.

Unfortunately, little details like alternate voice lines can make or break an experience, some players are sticklers for even the smallest detail and will not hesitate to call out the people responsible for their shortcomings.
