Bethesda Is Finally Going All Out With Starfield After a Year of Release as the Studio Finally Announces the Major Additions in the Upcoming Shattered Space DLC

Starfield was a passion project for director Todd Howard and the rest of Bethesda Game Studios. Game development can take a toll on developers; however, Howard passed all the trials and tribulations that kept this project from seeing the light of day, and a year ago, the game dropped on the Xbox Series X/S and PC which received generally favorable reviews from the gaming community and critics alike.

While celebrating the first anniversary, the developers teased the imminent arrival of the first major story expansion designated as the Shattered Space expansion. Players will see new content like items, biomes, and an improved enemy variety.

Bethesda Is Celebrating the First Anniversary of Starfield by Teasing the Upcoming Expansion

The road to completing this ambitious project was long, and director Todd Howard recalled how the Microsoft acquisition of Zenimax benefitted the process of completing Starfield and releasing it in a much smoother state. The gaming community had high hopes for this game, and it had its fair share of rough edges that were easily forgiven and overlooked after the developers released a series of patches and the Creation Kit for the modding community.

The shortcomings of the base game inspired the developers to do better with the Shattered Space DLC which will be released by the end of the month. Bethesda Game Studios teased the expansion will feature plenty of new content to build upon what worked from the base game like an increase in enemy variety, new weapons like grenades, and many more to improve the quality of life.

Director Todd Howard previously talked about the major updates the studio will add to the game and the potential release window of the expansion. Hopefully, this expansion will win back the favor of the gaming community to combat the dwindling player count and bring back the hype the game had months before it was released.

The base game had a few shortcomings that were addressed by the developers accordingly. Perfect games are hard to come by these days and Howard acknowledges that there are areas which could have been polished better, and this story expansion is an opportunity knocking on their door.

The Shattered Space DLC Could Be a Massive Game-Changer for Bethesda Game Studios

The gaming community is eager to dive into the expansion and Bethesda Game Studios could use the momentum to elevate the franchise to new heights. Perhaps another major story expansion will be added yearly to celebrate each anniversary.

More story content offers more opportunities to make the most of a game. Howard spent years perfecting this project and could have omitted a few ideas due to time constraints. Players reacted to a new batch of concept art featuring an underwater planet with new creatures.

The underwater planet could be fully realized once the developers figure out how to integrate them into the game. Perhaps a new story expansion akin to the Shattered Space DLC exploring more planets beyond Va’ruun’kai.

Bethesda Game Studios have only scratched the surface of the game’s full potential. There is no telling where the developers can take the project with enough time to plot a roadmap for future content.
