It’s not a secret that Fortnite has had some zany mashups in the past, but on Thursday, they’ve announced a collaboration with the viral Skibidi Toilet, and fans aren’t happy.
Fortnite has grown into a multi-million-dollar franchise, generating significant yearly revenue and featuring impressive crossovers spanning pop culture, music, and entertainment industries. At its core, Fortnite gained popularity as a battle royale game, enabling fans to stage some of the wildest face-offs in popular media history (fans can finally settle whether Dragon Ball’s Goku can defeat Superman).
This week, Fortnite announced a collaboration with the viral Skibidi Toilet YouTube series. Fans of both Skibidi Toilet and Fortnite can now equip an in-game backpack featuring a toilet with a face popping out. The release trailer for the collaboration is available below.
Aside from the cosmetic item that allows players to wear the viral Skibidi Toilet on their back, fans can also acquire a lore-accurate Plungerman skin from the franchise. In short, Skibidi Toilet is a YouTube series featuring a creepily animated head emerging from a toilet and singing nonsensical lyrics to the tune of hit songs by popular artists such as Justin Timberlake.
The entire series can be found on their official YouTube channel, and an amalgamation of the series has been viewed on YouTube over 700 million times. Fortnite teased the collaboration over on their official X (formerly Twitter) account on Dec. 17, with emojis portraying a toilet, a plunger and a camera consistent with what fans find on Plungerman’s neck.
Fortnite‘s official post revealing the collaboration landing in the item shop has received notable backlash from fans who dislike/can’t understand the content. One fan breezybetter07 released a long essay detailing why this is a misstep for Epic Games saying “it’s like you’ve taken a jackhammer to the bedrock of brainrot and declared it gold. It’s as if you’ve looked at the vast expanse of pop culture, the rich tapestry of characters and stories you could draw from, and said, “Nah, let’s go with the dancing toilet head.” Other fans have echoed the same sentiment under the massive comment, with disappointed views on what ‘should’ be added to the Battle Royale.
Other fans have taken to Reddit to comment on the massive wave of complaints regarding the Skibidi Toilet inclusion. One poster, sortingthemail, said: “I do not get why people are mad. Like honestly, I can play as a frozen banana dancing to Pump Up the Jam.” Another user, Mambosaurio, applauded the inclusion, saying: “Fortnite being that childish game everyone makes fun of again is the ultimate Fortnite OG experience,” referring to Skibidi Toilet landing on the Battle Bus.
While players seem to be divided on the addition of Skibidi Toilet and Plungerman to Fortnite, fans can find both items (including a Plunger Pickaxe) in the Fortnite item shop for the immediate future.
