Even though Diablo 4‘s launch was quite a nightmare for Blizzard, the studio has done a lot to improve the game. 2024 was quite a good year for the RPG as it was given its first major expansion, Vessel of Hatred, a brand-new class and location.
It’s great to see that Blizzard is finally bringing all the necessary changes and additions. However, the fact that Diablo 4 is based on the GaaS model means that we’ll never see the introduction of an offline mode that everyone has been begging for years.
If you’re unaware, Diablo 4 is the first live-service game in the iconic Diablo franchise. While this GaaS model can allow Blizzard to keep on adding constant new additions to keep the gameplay loop refreshed, the caveat is that players will always need an online connection.
In the last couple of years, we’ve seen Diablo 4 struggling with server outages, attacks, and what-not, which has led to frustration among gamers due to the fact they can’t play the title as it’s an always-online beast.
DDoS attack on Blizzard leads to more calls for a Diablo 4 offline mode | Some players were unable to access the game for over 12 hours

What’s the best solution for such a problem? Well, it’s quite simple: an offline mode. The introduction of offline mode can help Diablo 4 players play the game during these outage periods despite its live-service nature. Even though gamers have been demanding an offline mode, Blizzard has kept quiet and never considered the idea.

It’s quite disappointing that Blizzard is not listening to its player base and sticking to Diablo 4‘s always-online model that’s been bashed heavily by the community. Let’s hope the company can reconsider its decision in 2025 and finally bring a full-fledged offline mode.
Let’s be honest, whenever we see always-online requirements in any game, alarm bells start ringing as we’re all scared about the title’s preservation and longevity.
It’s been more than two years since the release of Diablo 4, and Blizzard has constantly updated the game with multiple updates, patches, and many other things. However, what’s going to happen with this title once Blizzard decides to move on to Diablo 5?
As we’ve seen with all live-service games in the past, once developers take on the next big project, the servers for older games lose activity and ultimately are shut down. This makes older games basically unplayable.
Diablo 4‘s live-service model allows Blizzard to rapidly send out balance updates and content additions, but there’s a lot to do in the base game. An offline mode would give players the choice of whether to play the title as a live service or enjoy the solo experience. Those who feel that the RPG is a full-fledged experience without live-service additions could enjoy it as such.
With that said, would you like to see an offline mode in Diablo 4? Let us know in the comments below.
