Dungeons in Destiny 2 can be a lot of fun and are currently one of the best end-game activities in the game. You can take them on in a team of three, but many players prefer to do solo runs. However, that’s where it all goes wrong, as running a dungeon solo is probably the most time-consuming task in Destiny 2. Players can deal with the challenge of solo runs, but not everyone has the patience to deal with sections that are drawn out simply for the sake of it.
This is why it feels important for Destiny 2 to bring back fireteam scaling, which was present in older seasonal activities.
Players have recently been expressing their frustrations with how long it can take to complete a solo dungeon run in Destiny 2. This also used to be a problem with another one of the game’s activities, named The Coil. Players’ main complaint with The Coil was the inclusion of the Togetherness modifier that punished them for playing solo.
Many voiced their frustrations on social media, and Bungie eventually released a patch that fixed everything and introduced fireteam scaling to the fold. Everything changed after this, as people went from being frustrated with The Coil to celebrating it as one of Destiny 2’s best activities ever.
For those of you who don’t know, fireteam scaling is a mechanic that adjusts the health and damage numbers of enemies, depending on how many players are in your party.
For raids and dungeons, fireteam scaling in Destiny 2 makes various minor adjustments to make the game fairer for solo players. This doesn’t make the game easier, per se, but does whittle down the time it takes to clear a dungeon if you’re on your own.
So, the solution to players’ recent frustration with dungeons is staring Bungie in the eye. All they have to do is introduce fireteam scaling. Doing so will retain the challenge of dungeons while drastically reducing the time it takes to clear one. Again, fireteam scaling will not make dungeons easier, but it will help solo players get through them faster.
Destiny 2 is a brilliant title, but more often than not, it counts on the players to be teamed up with others. This can lead to frustrations for solo players who simply want to drop in and have fun on their own.
As a result, many players might even be skeptical about picking up this game since the solo experience can be a little unforgiving and can’t be compared to the joy of playing in a team.
However, this can be fixed by making fireteam scaling a permanent feature that isn’t just limited to raids, dungeons, etc. More and more people will be willing to pick up Destiny 2 if Bungie makes the title more accessible to solo players.
