Palworld has taken the world by storm because of the unique features the game has provided, such as the ability to capture various Pals and build different camps and settlements. It is the ultimate fantasy of the gaming community, especially for fans of the Pokémon franchise with their striking similarities; however, the kicker here is that these Pals can be armed with a wide selection of different firearms, making them far deadlier and much more menacing.
Recently, reports claimed that the developers of Pocket Pair could be making some changes. The developers want to set the record straight and clarify that some of these claims are far from the truth, especially about the thought of turning the game into a free-to-play title.
Pocket Pair hit the ground running after the gaming community saw the potential of Palworld. The game developers did not hold back and planned to introduce newer Pals as part of the latest update and new biomes for players to explore earlier this year, winning the player base’s favor. Fans were vocal about their desire for new content and Pocket Pair has high hopes for this project and it is rare for relatively new projects to fare well amidst the fierce competition.
The developers went public to set the record straight about recent rumors of the gaming shifting gears and business structures, and it was never a serious option nor discussed by studio executives. Pocket Pair is still weighing its options carefully and finding the right path for Palworld and its future without compromising quality and avoiding antagonizing the loyal gaming community. Free-to-play games can be a hit-and-miss, some online multiplayer projects thrive with this structure; however, there are some drawbacks.
Regarding the Future of Palworld
— Palworld (@Palworld_EN) September 14, 2024
TL;DR – We are not changing our game's business model, it will remain buy-to-play and not f2p or GaaS.
Recently, an article was published in which we discussed the possible future direction of Palworld and ideas for continuing the game for a…
The game is thriving with the current structure and gaining more players than other popular games like Helldivers 2 across the PlayStation 5 and PC platforms. Pocket Pair revealed the executive considered the idea of distributing more cosmetic items and potential expansions as a way to sustain future development. Nothing has been set in stone and the game developers feel remorseful for the potential panic these unverified news have caused the player base.
The game industry is a cut-throat business and Pocket Pair was dealt with an unfortunate hand of falling victim to false claims. Although the mentioned article involved an interview from a long time ago, a lot could have changed since then. Not everything the executives have envisioned will always pan out the way they hoped and it is a challenge from a business perspective to keep this game afloat.
It is daunting to decide a video game’s fate, especially with how often the mood and tone of public opinion shifts. Pocket Pair has grand ambitions for the Palworld and will not risk the game’s reputation and quality by gambling on something that may not work out in the long run.
The game developers had a clear vision for how this game would look and feel. It would be a waste of resources to transition the game from one structure to another and a risk. The community manager is overwhelmed with the tremendous support the game is receiving from the gaming community; however, they are not a fan of pitting two great games against one another.
Not everything is compatible with the free-to-play structure. Pocket Pair realized that long before, Palworld was in development and would not have a change of heart this late in the cycle.
Pocket Pair should not have to go through this experience of reassuring fans over something that had no bearing. The developers wanted to make the best game possible and this is nothing but a minor setback for the game’s future.
