Baldur's Gate 3: Who is Losiir?

Highlights

  • Baldur's Gate 3 allows players to experience the game from the point of view of different origin characters, such as Lae'zel and Gale, each with their own unique NPCs and encounters.
  • In Lae'zel's origin story, players encounter the temporary companion Losiir, who helps them escape the Nautiloid. Losiir's presence is crucial to Lae'zel's escape, but tragically, he dies early in the game.
  • Losiir is a capable warrior aligned with the Fighter class, with similar stats and abilities as Lae'zel. Players can loot useful items from Losiir's body, including potions, a scroll, weapons, and armor.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has the option to play the game from the point of view of the companions, also known as Origin characters. Some of these origin characters have unique NPCs. There’s Sceleritas Fel if players pick to play as Baldur's Gate 3's Dark Urge and there’s the Tressym Tara if the player chooses to play as Gale. Although Tara can be encountered no matter which character the player controls, it will just be a fleeting encounter instead of her staying in camp in a Gale playthrough.

There is one origin character that has a crucial part in the prologue and that is Lae’zel. No matter who players play as, she will be the first companion to help fight and escape while on the Nautiloid. Lae’zel starts off with aggression, but once she discovers that the player also has a tadpole, she decides that working together is the best course of action and becomes the player's first companion. What happens when Lae’zel is the protagonist of Baldur’s Gate 3 is quite fascinating. A new temporary Githyanki companion is introduced, and his name is Losiir.

Who is Losiir?

The Unsung Hero of Lae’zel’s Origin Story

Losiir is a playable character in the prologue of a Lae’zel playthrough. He shows up in the same style that Lae’zel does, but instead of accusing her of working with the enemy as she does with the player, he propositions her to work to escape the Nautiloid. Losiir doesn’t protest about freeing Shadowheart from the Mindflayer Pod and merely asks Lae’zel what she wants to do. Unfortunately, Shadowheart doesn’t seem to acknowledge Losiir’s existence and, after freeing her, Losiir has nothing to say to Shadowheart. Sadly, Lae’zel discovers his body on the beach after the Nautiloid crash. Without Losiir to replace Lae’zel in her origin story, she may not have been able to escape, and her story might have ended there on the Nautiloid.

A Capable Warrior

Losiir is identical to Lae’zel in almost every way, except that he uses a Scimitar and uses a different fighting style. Whereas Lae’zel uses the Great Weapon Fighting Style, Losiir uses the Defense Fighting Style. Losiir is aligned with the Fighter class in BG3, and he has quite a bit of strength, which isn't the standard for male companions, since Baldur’s Gate 3 is renowned for its male companions lacking strength except for Halsin. He is invaluable when players are traversing the Nautiloid as Lae’zel, and by having the same skill set as her, he makes the whole ordeal much easier. It is unfortunate that Losiir faced his demise so early because, with both his and Lae’zel’s combined prowess, they would have been an unstoppable fighting duo if he had survived the prologue and become a permanent companion.

Losiir’s Stats and Items

With Losiir being a powerful companion in Baldur's Gate 3, albeit temporary, players might be curious to know what his stats are. The fact is that Losiir’s role is Lae’zel’s replacement, so he has the exact same starting stats as her. Those stats are:

Strength

Dexterity

Constitution

Intelligence

Wisdom

Charisma

When Losiir is found dead on the beach, Lae’zel expresses a hint of sadness. Unfortunately, players cannot revive him. Once the prologue ends, he is no longer considered a playable character. However, he does have some useful items that the player can loot from him. These items are:

  • 2 Potions of Healing
  • Scroll of Revivify
  • Longbow
  • Scimitar
  • Githyanki Half Plate
  • Tourmaline Ring
  • Githyanki Boots

It can be difficult to find a Scroll of Revivify in BG3, so it's useful that Losiir has one that players can loot from him. Losiir could have been a promising companion, he would also have been the perfect opportunity to have a male Githyanki companion in the game, even if it were only for a Lae’zel playthrough. It would have been interesting to have seen his story in Baldur’s Gate 3, but alas, his story was fated to end in tragedy.
