Shattered Space DLC and Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Have 1 Similarity That United us All Against Todd Howard and Hidetaka Miyazaki

Even though gamers despise downloadable content for making them spend even more money, DLCs can truly provide great value. Sometimes, the DLCs prove to be the best part of the game, bringing additional content for a world gamers can’t get enough of.

With the biggest DLCs of the year, Starfield‘s Shattered Space and Elden Ring‘s Shadow of the Erdtree, gamers expected an overhauled experience that’d push the respective game to their boundaries. Although these DLCs did bring something new to the table, they share one aspect that can considered to be a huge failure.

Shattered Space and Shadow of the Erdtree Failed to Deliver

Since Starfield‘s release in 2023, it’s been absolutely despised by a majority of Bethesda fans. The sci-fi RPG was the company’s first new IP in 25 years, meaning it really had a riding on its back.

What’s worse is that its Shattered Space expansion put even more pressure on its shoulders as gamers had hoped that it would bring enough changes to turn the game into something truly epic.

On the other side of the spectrum, we have Elden Ring, FromSoftware, and Hidetaka Miyazaki’s finest creation. Right from its release, Elden Ring was a massive success for the studio and completely revolutionized the Soulsike genre from the ground up.

Its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC managed to further evolve the iconic Souslike formula. It was quite an impactful expansion, bringing an incredible depth of content and brand-new content additions that changed how we experienced the game forever.

Shattered Space and Shadow of the Erdtree had high expectations from the get-go, and even though the Elden Ring DLC managed to somewhat deliver on those, it still doesn’t change the fact that they both were kind of underwhelming.

We don’t need to say much about Shattered Space DLC; it was truly a disappointment and a massive blunder for the $30 price tag and it failed to stand apart from the base game in every manner. Even though Shadow of the Erdtree was an extensive DLC, its ending was a complete horror show and failed to unravel many mysteries that the base game hinted at for ages.

These DLCs, considering their budgets and development time, should’ve delivered upon brought even more and fixed the issues of the base games, but they simply failed to do so. While Hidetaka Miyazaki can still fix things in his upcoming project, gamers believe Bethesda and Todd Howard have already lost their way.

Even though Starfield was packed to the brim with issues, Shattered Space was supposed to change everything. However, currently, it’s being torn apart by gamers on Steam. The DLC is being review bombed on Steam, and that’s just a week after its release.

So, you might wonder how exactly Bethesda managed to mess up one of the biggest additions for Starfield. Well, the developers didn’t take their time to develop quality content for a $30 DLC. At a price where you can buy some quality games, the DLC doesn’t bring new ship parts, skills, or gameplay mechanics you’d expect.

It took Bethesda over a year to craft Shattered Space, which is quite bizarre considering the fact that it has delivered some incredible DLCs for its classic games in way less time. These expansions completely alerted the games and helped them become the face of their respective genres.

With how Bethesda has handled its games in recent years, players believe that even Elder Scrolls 6 would be a bust, which will truly be a disaster for Bethesda if that game fails to deliver. Let’s hope Howard and his team can finally figure out things and lead the company back to its glory era.

With that said, do you Shattered Space and Shadow of the Erdtree failed to live up to the hype? If so, let us know in the comments below.
