Edge of Memories Highlights Its Story
Publisher NACON and developer Midgar Studio released a new trailer for their upcoming title Edge of Memories . The new video highlights the game's story, which takes place on the world of Heryon, the same world as the developer's previous title, Edge of Eternity .
Heryon has been afflicted by the Corrosion, a blight which transforms its living beings into monstrosities. Edge of Memories takes place on the continent of Avaris, on the other side of the world to the events in Edge of Eternity , which is home to nomadic peoples now on the verge of extinction. The game follows Eline, a wandering Soul Whisperer who travels across the land while aiding suffering but who finds herself gaining a strange power from the Corrosion. This power allows her to transform into the Black Beast, unleashing powerful abilities on her enemies.
Eline is joined by unlikely mentor Ysoris and shaman-prince Kanta as they set out to try and save the dying world and find the truth behind the Corrosion. In their adventure, they encounter various foes, including Ziegler, a mysterious figure who also wields power tied to the Corrosion; the Apex, a divine emissary who claims to see the future and past; and the Sanctorium, a religious order that dominates Avaris and who conducts cruel experiments using the Corrosion.
Unlike Edge of Eternity’ s turn-based battles, Edge of Memories features a real-time action combat system that focuses on stringing together combos. Players are also able to customise their companion characters’ abilities as well as transform into a Berserker capable of delivering powerful blows. The game will include contributions from various names including character designer Raita Kazama ( Xenoblade Chronicles X ), writer Sawako Natori ( NieR ), singer Emi Evans ( NieR / NieR: Automata ), as well as composers Yasunori Mitsuda ( Chrono Trigger / Xenoblade Chronicles ) and Mariam Abounnasr ( Xenoblade Chronicles 3 / Oninaki ). Edge of Memories will release in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Unicorn Overlord Melisandre Figure Debuts in 2026
Kotobukiya opened pre-orders for the Unicorn Overlord Melisandre figure ahead of her debut in 2026, and it confirmed buying direct through the company nets someone an extra face plate. It will launch in Japan first in June 2026 for 23,100円 . The US release happens in July 2026, and it will cost $184.99 there.
Kotobukiya first started talking about the Melisandre figure when 2025 began. Concept art for her showed up at the end of January 2025 . She’s a Swordfighter, and her pose for the figure is based on the one used in her official art. She doesn’t automatically join in Unicorn Overlord, and you need to make certain choices to get her as an ally. The figure is a 1/7 scale one that stands at almost 10 inches tall (252mm), and she comes “equipped” with what looks like her Black-Iron Sword.
Here’s how it looks.

The company also shared a photo highlighting the bonus face plate. This is only available through its official storefronts. While the character is smiling in her default pose, the additional posing option turns that into an open-mouth smile.

There are even more figures from Unicorn Overlord planned after the Melisandre one debuts. Apex-Toys confirmed it is making ones of Berengaria and Virginia .
Unicorn Overlord is on the Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X, and we will see the Melisandre figure show up in Japan in June 2026 and the US in July 2026.

Dead or Alive Nyotengu, Honoka, and Marie Rose Figures Are at WF 2025 Shanghai
Both Apex-Toys and Kaiyodo announced they are showing off figures of Dead or Alive characters Nyotengu, Honoka, and Marie Rose at Wonder Festival 2025 Shanghai in October 2025. All three are in the unpainted prototype phase and are scale figures. As such, we don’t know when any of the three will actually appear. Items from each of these manufacturers do end up appearing worldwide.
Kaiyodo is behind the Honoko and Marie Rose figures, both fo which are based on their appearances in Dead or Alive 6 . It first announced the products back in May 2025 . No concept art or designs appeared during that initial reveal. The unpainted prototypes at WF 2025 Shangai show the final poses and costumes. Each character will be in their default attire for the figure. They will each be on matching stands. So if displayed together like in the sample figure, it will look like they match.
The Apex-Toys Nyotengu figure is based on her Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation appearance. She’s wearing the Dea Marina event swimsuit. This one is also confirmed to be a 1/7 scale figure, to offer a better idea of the size.
Here are the photos of the prototype figures from both companies:

The Dead or Alive 6 Honoka and Marie Rose figures and Xtreme Venus Vacation Nyotengu one are in development, and there are no release dates for any of them yet. As they are unpainted, we might not see them until 2026 or even 2027.

New Zenless Zone Zero Figures Include Miyabi, Jane Doe,
Apex-Toys announced figures of multiple Zenless Zone Zero characters at 2025 WF Shanghai, and among them were Astra Yao, Evelyn Chevalier, Jane Doe, Hoshimi Miyabi, and Tsukishiro Yanagi. Miyabi appeared most often, as on and off duty versions came up. All of them were unpainted prototypes, so we have no idea when they’ll actually release.
In the case of three of the Zenless Zone Zero characters, the figures are based on their standard costumes and appearances in the game. These are the Astra Yao, Evelyn Chevalier, and Jane Doe ones. All of them are static figures standing and holding the equipment they use to attack. So Jane has her knife and Astra is in front of her microphone. These will be 1/7 scale figures, and all of them are in more stable, standing poses.
Here’s how those look:

In the case of Tsukishiro Yanagi, it looks like she is on the job at Special Operations Section 6, but working in the office instead of ready to fight in a Hollow. She has her work badge on a lanyard around her neck and is in a professional outfit, with her purse on her right shoulder and her blazer in her left hand. That is a 1/8 scale figure.
This is the current state of that figure.

Finally, the two Hoshimi Miyabi figures show both sides of the Zenless Zone Zero character. In one, she’s actually in her on-duty clothes and in the middle of unleashing an attack. That’s a 1/7 scale figure. In the other, she is off-duty and sitting on a bench in a more casual outfit, holding flowers in her hands. That one is a 1/8 scale statue.
Here are those two prototypes:

Zenless Zone Zero is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices, and these Apex-Toys Astra Yao, Evelyn Chevalier, Jane Doe, Hoshimi Miyabi, and Tsukishiro Yanagi figures are in development.

Collecting Cards, Battle Passes, And Being Unable To Enjoy Anything Anymore
I can't take it anymore. Why does everything need a battle pass? Why do new card sets drop every month? Why am I constantly bombarded with reminders that my hobbies have time constraints? I'm always told I must move quickly if I want to finish the latest Fortnite or Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 battle pass, complete a Pokémon TCG set, or find the Lightning card I so desperately want from the Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy collaboration before Wizards of the Coast moves on to the next big collaboration. That sentence is only half as exhausting as my hobbies have become. Perhaps I haven't been paying attention, but it feels like all of my hobbies are constantly telling me that time is a finite resource and I don't have enough of it. Never mind the frustrating ads that pop up every time I boot up Fortnite or Call of Duty, reminding me that the season ends in XX days and I will miss out on this skin and that cosmetic if I don't finish it in time. The passage of time and the way companies move from one thing to the next is a reality check that my hobbies, despite how much I love them, are powered by capitalistic intent with sights aimed directly at my wallet. I thoroughly enjoyed playing Marvel Snap, the mobile card game featuring basically every hero and villain from Marvel's comic book universe, but I couldn't keep up with its monthly seasons. Not only was Marvel asking for my money each month, but the meta changed as frequently with the introduction of new cards, and the second you opt out of that loop, you lose. I thoroughly enjoyed playing Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, the mobile card-collecting game based on one of my all-time favorite franchises. However, after initially having months to finish up the first set – Genetic Apex – The Pokémon Company began a monthly cadence of expansion releases. I quickly dipped out once I recognized the frustration and heartbreak I felt with Snap was coming here, too. Sure, you can still collect previous expansions, but sticking to an older expansion while a new one is in the spotlight means I'll never catch up. Like Snap, the meta is everything in Pocket. So I deleted the game from my phone. Even off my phone, this cadence I could never hope to keep up with is apparent. I jumped into collecting physical Pokémon cards with the release of the 151 set a few years back. It seemed simple enough: it's just the first 151 Pokémon, and it was heavily steeped in nostalgia, revisiting the monsters and card designs I grew up with in the late 1990s. Imagine my surprise when, at the same time, The Pokémon Company releases a new set – and then another one, and another. Do I continue chasing 151 (mind you, the Pokémon card community is plagued with people flipping sets to chase profit, ruining it for those genuine card collectors), or do I hop over to the new set, or do I buy a new binder and try to do both? Exhausted and overwhelmed, I stopped. I haven't played Fortnite in months, save for the occasional match with my nephew when he needs my help completing a quest, because I can't bring myself to commit to completing the battle pass in time. "Wesley, you can just play the game and ignore the battle pass!" Have you played Fortnite?? The entire experience is built around that dang battle pass – the XP system, the collaborations, the in-game items and locations. It all funnels back into, "Wow, you should really purchase and complete this battle pass. You don't want to be the loser without this Power Ranger skin, do you?" I'll admit, for years, that FOMO kept me coming back to complete every single battle pass, even when I cared little for the Level 100 cosmetic waiting for me at the end of it. But not this time, Fortnite. I just can't do it anymore. The same goes for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, though I hopped off that train far sooner than Fortnite's. I've never played Magic: The Gathering, but I have spent nearly $400 collecting cards from its Final Fantasy set that launched earlier this year. I adore Final Fantasy. It's one of my all-time favorite game series; there are multiple Final Fantasy XIII cards. With how many of my colleagues who play Magic, I have known for years that it was only a matter of time before I jumped in, and the Final Fantasy collaboration was my moment. I collected so many cards, waited in line at various stores before they opened to purchase bundles, and am slowly teaching myself how to play the game. I was excited to visit my local card shop and play against other people using Final Fantasy cards. Already, though, Wizards of the Coast has released the Edge of Eternities, an original set, and Spider-Man and Avatar: The Last Airbender cards are coming soon. Yes, I can absolutely still play and enjoy my Final Fantasy decks. But assuming I get as hooked as I think I will on Magic: The Gathering, am I really going to start collecting Spider-Man cards and then Avatar cards soon, all while catching up on Edge of Eternities, which I have ignored while trying to collect Final Fantasy cards? No. I refuse. I know where this leads. I have drawn my line in the sand. It's simple: I just cannot engage with the constant onslaught of releases anymore. I even get notifications from Kindle about my monthly reading achievements (that I don't care about) and a coffee shop app that promises a free drink if I buy this many drinks in a week (I won't). I don't know when it happened, but every single thing I love is demanding more and more of my time and money, and it has sucked the enjoyment out of them. I don't even have an uplifting thesis statement to end on. It just sucks. I'm tired of collecting cards; I'm tired of battle passes in everything; I'm tired of having to enjoy my hobbies by following a monthly cadence I can't keep up with. These things are supposed to be fun, but I'm just tired.

9-Star Difficulty Monsters Head to Monster Hunter Wilds
At the end of July 2025 , Capcom announced it would add the planned increased difficulty and end-game content update in August 13, 2025 instead of September 2025, and now Director Yuya Tokuda talked more about the 9-star monsters heading to Monster Hunter Wilds . These monsters will show up alongside the set of new quests and talismans in the game . You do need to be at HR 100 to start seeing them. However, once you do, you can get Glowing Stone appraisal items that can be turned into Appraised Talismans.
Initially, the version 1.021 Monster Hunter Wilds update announcement noted there would be “new level of quest difficulty” and “new rewards system (talisman),” with the nine-star monsters not even mentioned. Nine of them will appear initially. All of them will be Tempered Monsters. Based on the initial teaser photo, it looks like these will be Jin Dahaad, Lagiacrus, Mizutsune, Nu Udra, Gore Magala, Rathian, Rey Dau, Seregios, and Uth Duna. More will join them in September 2025 with Title Update 3. The Appraised Talismans they drop will have random skills, including weapon and armor ones, and decoration slots. Those can’t be upgraded, however. In general, hunting rewards will also be adjusted for them.
Tokuda also went over additional changes that will come alongside the higher difficulty changes for HR 100 hunters in Monster Hunter Wilds . He started by mentioning meal effects will last longer, to balance things out since hunts will take longer. The announcement noted that Apex Predators will appear in regions even when when there isn’t the inclemency. When Title Update 3 arrives, those nine-star monsters could crash Event Quests. There will also be more instances where we’ll face larger groups, and he specifically mentioned “hunts targeting packs of monsters.”
Here are some additional screenshots Capcom shared showing changes:
Images via Capcom
We also know the other two additions coming in the patch this week. There will be weapon balance adjustments and various improvements and adjustments coming this week too.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and nine-star difficulty monsters arrive in a patch on August 13, 2025.
