Tenz Steps Away, Leaving a Void in Team Sentinels: With Another Teammate Following Suit, Does the Most Renowned VALORANT Team Stand a Chance Anymore?

The 2024 Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) season is over and roster mania has started as we get into the offseason. Sentinels has been the first to shock the community with the back-to-back retirements of two of the game’s most iconic players.

Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, the face of the game and considered one of the greatest pros in the game’s short history was the first to announce his retirement from the roster. Shortly after, Champions 2022 winner Gustavo “Sacy” Rossi, another pivotal member of the team, also announced his retirement. What’s next for the org as it loses two of its pivotal members?

TenZ announced his retirement on September 14, 2024, in a heartfelt Twitter post accompanied by a six-minute video explaining his decision. The 23-year-old Canadian star stated that the choice was not made lightly, revealing he had been contemplating it since the start of the year.

He talked about the immense demands of being a professional player and his desire to explore new ventures, such as content creation, as key factors in his decision. The timing is a bit ironic since he retired right after it was announced that Riot would use better PCs in their LAN events due to pros like TenZ calling it out.

Just a day later, on September 15, Sacy followed suit by announcing his own retirement. Unlike TenZ, Sacy provided fewer details about his future plans, although he acknowledged that his decision was motivated by personal and family reasons.

Sacy’s departure is another massive blow for the org. The team relied on his exceptional skill and leadership to secure key wins, including a win at VCT Masters Madrid earlier in 2024.

Both Sacy and TenZ reached the pinnacle of success before stepping down. With a win at the VCT Champions 2022 with LOUD and later domestic and international victories with the North American org, Sacy has solidified his legacy.

Sentinels Might Already Have Found Replacements For The Two Legends

Sentinels is now in a delicate position. Known for being one of the most successful esports organizations globally, its roster has been integral to the game’s competitive scene. Now, as they face losing two of their most accomplished players, rebuilding seems a monumental task.

The question on everyone’s mind now is, who will step up to replace these legends? As the offseason begins, the possibility of new recruits or younger talent rising to the occasion is on the table. Nothing has been confirmed yet though so stay tuned.

Fans have already started to speculate about potential signings, with some suggesting that the org might be trialing new players. Over on Reddit, there have been reports that the org is interested in Marshall “N4RRATE” Massey from Karmine Corp and Alexander “jawgemo” Mor from Evil Geniuses.

Both N4rrate and jawgemo had excellent showings this year and were one of the best and most consistent performers in their respective regions and would be a solid pickup. But trials are only trials for now and the results could be completely different.

Regardless of what happens next, the retirements of TenZ and Sacy mark the end of an era for both the org and the esports scene as a whole. Maybe the content creator life will bring TenZ success like how it has for other pros turned casuals.
