Diablo 4 needs to bring some changes in its seasonal model if it wants to stay relevant for a longer time in the market, especially after the release of Path of Exile 2, which is a free-to-play RPG that offers much more than Diablo 4, which is currently priced at $49.99.
Players have been complaining about not getting anything in the latest season apart from a reskinned season 2. This is a major issue for any live-service game, and Blizzard needs to act as soon as possible and work towards resolving this issue.
Blizzard seems to have become too lazy and complacent with its recent updates of Diablo 4. Season 7 is currently live but does not seem to offer anything new. Similar to season 2, this season too has Witch Helltides and Witch Powers.
Apart from this, even nerfs and balance changes have not been well fleshed out. If this attitude prevails, then there is a high chance Diablo 4 will soon have to let go of its current stronghold in the market to pave the way for games that care about its players.
Live-service game developers need to be on their toes at all times, thinking of new and innovative ways to make the experience of playing their games fun and exciting for a long time. The main reason why the concept of seasonal updates came to be was to keep offering a fresh experience to its players.
Blizzard is currently at risk of losing its share of the market to Path of Exile 2. The latter knows how to make the experience of playing the game fun and refreshing. This is exactly what Blizzard needs.
Blizzard still has some time before things run out of its hands. It needs to think fast and come up with a solution that offers fans some new content in the upcoming days.
Redundancy is a live-service game’s worst enemy. No one likes repetition unless it is done in a way where even the repetition feels fresh. Path of Exile knows how to reuse content in a way that feels fresh, as opposed to Diablo 4‘s redundant approach.
Blizzard needs to learn a thing or two from Path of Exile’s developer on how to make older content appear new. Path of Exile 2’s release should act as a ticking time bomb for Blizzard. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below.
