Stardew Valley author: Making games is not about making money, but about sharing with the world

Eric Barone, the author of "Stardew Valley", said in an interview with foreign media recently that his goal in making games is not to make money, but to share it with the world.

"Before I made Stardew Valley, I was hunched over my computer all day, and I'm still hunched over my computer all day now," Barone said. "My goal in life is not to make money, I want to create things and share them with the world, that's what it's all about, that's what I'm doing, that's what I'm going to do, regardless of any other circumstances, as long as I can financially support myself to be able to do it. If I can't, I'll get a job and create things in my free time to try to get back to work."

Besides, he also thinks that he is nothing big: "I'm just a guy who makes games, and I'm just making games that I want to play. I would like to say that I touched on a zeitgeist that I didn't realize, but I'm not the only one who feels this way. We want to play some different games.... I think if I didn't do it, someone else might do it at a similar time."

“I feel responsible for any issues people have, or if someone doesn’t like the game or has a good time, not just with Stardew Valley, but anything that’s related to Stardew Valley: merchandise, board games, concerts—things like that. It’s weird because it’s grown into something that’s beyond me, but at the same time, I still feel personally responsible for the brand and concept of Stardew Valley.” (Source: aftermath.site)
