McDonald’s Japan Teases Hololive Usada Pekora Collaboration

In the early hours of September 13, 2024, the Japanese McDonald’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account posted an ominous picture that seems to be teasing an upcoming collaboration with Usada Pekora of hololive. It shows her silhouette in front of the full moon and the caption reads, “I want to eat tsukimi burgers peko.” [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Tsukimi, or moon-viewing, is a custom that the Japanese and other Asian cultures indulge in during the autumn season. Traditionally, you would eat snacks like dango or drink sake. However, restaurants will also release a limited time tsukimi menu, which usually includes an egg in the dish. The egg would represent the moon.

McDonald’s also started selling its own tsukimi menu from September 4, 2024. Some new items this year include chicken nuggets with a yuzu shichimi tartar sauce, a tsukimi pie (filled with kinako mochi and red bean paste), and a custard pudding-flavored shake. The cup the shake comes in depicts two rabbits looking up at the full moon, which is a reference to the story of the Moon rabbit. Pekora being a rabbit is likely the reason why she’s the hololive VTuber who’ll be part of this upcoming collaboration.

More information on the McDonald’s and Usada Pekora collaboration will appear in the future.
