It’s been roughly a month since the release of NetEase Games’ Marvel Rivals and it is already doomed by a problem that has been haunting Riot Games’ Valorant for the past few years. Marvel Rivals offers an impressive lineup of 33 iconic characters from Marvel comics, out of which 18 characters are DPS (duelists). Despite the game featuring so many powerful Strategists and Vanguards, many players only go for Duelists.
This is a big problem as these instalockers are not only ruining the team composition but also preventing other players from trying out popular Duelists in the game. Unfortunately, many players don’t see this as a problem and have been defending it on social media. A simple solution is to add a feature that exists within Overwatch 2, however, it might ruin Marvel Rivals.
Gamers all over the world hate instalockers primarily because they ruin the purpose of adding different classes in Hero shooters. NetEase Games’ latest game, Marvel Rivals, is also affected by this problem, but it seems like players are defending instalockers on the r/MarvelRivals subreddit after a player put a spotlight on this problem.
How you guys who insta-lock seem sometimes…

It’s certainly strange that the community is trying to fight instalockers by instalocking Duelists, but players can’t be blamed entirely. As many pointed out, the game features more Duelists than Strategists and Vanguards combined, so obviously, most players will go for Duelists.
NetEase Games specifically focused on giving players the experience that they are looking for while developing Marvel Rivals. The studio wants players to use any hero they want, but most players want to see one matchmaking feature in the game: Role Queue.
Role Queue is a feature in Overwatch 2 that limits the number of heroes of each class that can be used. This creates a more structured gameplay and maintains a good team composition. Many players have suggested that NetEase Games should integrate this into Marvel Rivals, however, it could be disastrous.
Role Queue would not only increase matchmaking times but it will also encourage queue dodging. NetEase Games could solve that issue by adding penalties but introducing this system would affect the game’s active player count. Marvel Rivals is still fairly new and adding Role Queue so early would stop many new players from trying it out.
Currently, NetEase Games is focusing on introducing new heroes to make its lineup more diverse. Adding more powerful Strategists and Vanguards will certainly encourage players to try out different classes.
