This holiday season, Sonic the Hedgehog will make his big-screen comeback in his most exciting adventure to date. According to the movie’s synopsis, Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails team up to battle Shadow, a formidable new foe who possesses powers unlike anything they have ever encountered.
In order to stop Shadow and save the planet, Team Sonic must find an unlikely alliance because their skills are completely outmatched. In the new film, Ben Schwartz reprises his role as Sonic the Hedgehog, Colleen O’Shaughnessey plays Miles “Tails” Prower, and Idris Elba plays Knuckles the Echidna. However, the whole anticipation is revolving around Shadow.
Jim Carrey’s two Doctor Robotnik characters and Keanu Reeves’ Shadow are among the twelve Sonic the Hedgehog 3 character posters that Paramount Pictures has made public.
According to game lore, Professor Gerald Robotnik, the grandfather of the series’ primary antagonist Doctor Eggman, created Shadow, a black hedgehog that has undergone anthropomorphic changes.
Fans are already hyped up with the inclusion of Keanu Reeves for the voice acting of Shadow in the upcoming movie. However, this hype broke free when Paramount Japan released the Japanese-dubbed trailer of the upcoming movie. In this trailer, Toshiyuki Morikawa comes up as the Japanese voice actor of Shadow.
Now, this Reeves-Morikawa duo reminds us of the glory days of Cyberpunk 2077. In this popular RPG title, Morikawa voiced Johnny Silverhand in the Japanese dub, which was originally voiced by Keanu Reeves.
Silverhand was a blockbuster character in the game. Hence, we hope this duo will keep their legacy alive in the upcoming movie as well through Shadow.
Although it may appear that way at first glance, Shadow isn’t your stereotypical “evil” Sonic the Hedgehog. Since he made his debut in the Dreamcast game Sonic Adventure 2 in 2001, this antihero may be the only positive outcome of that misguided console.
Hero and Dark were the two halves of the game’s plot. Sonic and his friends Tails and Knuckles are followed in the first section of the game, while the antagonist of the series, Doctor Eggman, who collaborates with Shadow, is followed in the second.
Naturally, a large portion of Sega’s early game marketing emphasized the contrast between Sonic and Shadow. While one hedgehog was a good, angelic one, the other was a much more cunning and dangerous adversary.
Fans soon discovered, however, that Shadow’s “bad” persona is simply the way he presents himself. Over the course of Sonic Adventure 2‘s Dark plot, a much more tragic and complex character gradually emerges.
About fifty years ago, Doctor Gerald Robotnik, the grandfather of Doctor Eggman, created Shadow. He was born in the Space Colony Ark, a space station located far above Earth, where Robotnik was studying immortality in an attempt to treat his granddaughter Maria’s terminal illness.
As the “Ultimate Life Form,” Shadow is immune to all illnesses and wounds, and Robotnik made a valiant attempt to give Maria Shadow’s powers.
