“I really hope they learned a lot”: Cyberpunk 2077 Fans Are Cautiously Excited To Hear That CD Projekt Red Is Officially Planning a Sequel

Cyberpunk 2077 has had what is probably the biggest ‘zero to hero’ stories in gaming history. The game has seen it all. It had a very rocky launch in 2020 but was eventually redeemed through extensive patches and the Phantom Liberty DLC in 2023.

Now, CD Projekt Red has officially announced that a sequel is in the works under the codename Project Orion. While this news is exciting we do hope that the developer has learned from past mistakes to deliver a more polished experience.

A Sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 Has the Potential To Be Amazing

The development of Project Orion is still in its early stages, with CD Projekt Red revealing that the game has moved from the research and development phase into pre-production. This means that the sequel is a long way from release, and fans will likely have to wait several years before getting their hands on it.

One of the most encouraging updates from CDPR is their decision to expand the development team for Project Orion. The new Boston studio, which is leading the project, has seen its team size grow from 56 to 60 developers in recent months, with plans to double the headcount over the next year.

Fans are thrilled at the prospect of returning to the neon-lit streets of Night City, while others are wary of another potential letdown. CDPR has a lot riding on this sequel. After the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077, the company spent years rebuilding its reputation.

While details remain scarce, CDPR has confirmed that the game will be built using Unreal Engine 5, a change from the REDengine used in the original. This change could mean a big technological leap that may address many of the issues that plagued the studio’s last game.

Let’s Hope History Doesn’t Repeat Itself With The Sequel

Despite the excitement, there is a pervasive sense of cautious optimism among the fanbase. Many players are eager to see what CDPR can achieve with a second chance at the Cyberpunk universe. The general sentiment is clear: quality should take precedence over a rushed release.

The Cyberpunk universe offers a rich setting for storytelling, and many fans are curious about the direction the sequel will take. It’s unclear whether the new game will be a direct continuation of Cyberpunk 2077 or an entirely new story within the same universe.

Fans are already speculating about the possibilities with hope for the inclusion of the acclaimed anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which expanded the lore of Night City.

So as we wait for more news about Project Orion, the way to go about this would be with cautious optimism. The potential for another groundbreaking game is there, but so is the potential for history to repeat itself.

What do you think about Project Orion? Will CDPR learn from the past? Let us know in the comments below!
