“Sony has locked down marketing rights for GTA 6”: Another L for Xbox Incoming as PlayStation Reportedly Planning to Deal a Heavy Blow to Phil Spencer This December

If there’s one game that’s absolutely going to shatter all gaming records in 2025, it’s Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6). The upcoming title from Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive is the first new installment in the franchise in over a decade. The anticipation is quite high, and gamers can’t wait for the title to hit the shelves.

So far, Rockstar Games has only released one GTA 6 trailer that has managed to hit 200 million views. Gamers are craving more information about the upcoming title, but amidst all that, it seems like PlayStation has managed to secure a deal that might be the final nail in the coffin for Xbox’s future going forward.

Rumors Suggest Sony has Locked Marketing Rights for GTA 6

New reports have surfaced online that Sony Interactive Entertainment has managed to secure a deal to lock the GTA 6‘s marketing rights for its PlayStation consoles.

According to reputable insider “MAGG” on the XNC podcast, this exclusive deal will be announced when GTA 6‘s second trailer debuts at the upcoming 2024 Games Awards in December.

However, the insider has assured that the deal won’t end up affecting the game’s launch for Xbox Series S/X users but will scientifically reduce marketing exposure on Microsoft’s platform. Such exclusive deals also tend to bring exclusive perks for the consoles, and Xbox gamers won’t be getting that either now.

The insider also suggests that the game could showcase its visual splendor at resolutions as high as 8k and up to 60 FPS on the PS5 pro, a feat that will undoubtedly captivate all gamers.

The reasoning behind Sony’s move to secure a deal with Rockstar Games is clear. The next GTA game is destined to be massive and comes with the potential to completely revolutionize the entertainment industry. There’s no way Sony wouldn’t like to capitalize on such a game and further boost the sales of its own consoles.

The Dark Future of Microsoft’s Xbox Consoles

While Sony’s exclusive deal news might prove to be disappointing for Xbox fans, there’s really no surprise here. It only makes sense for Rockstar Games to partner with Sony as PS5 stands as the leading platform for the current generation of consoles.

Even though Microsoft has acquired titans of the industry, such as Bethesda and Activsion-Blizzard, the sales of its consoles continue to drop. What’s worse is that third-party games such as Black Myth Wukong have not been released on the platform since day one.

Recent reports have suggested that Phil Spencer and his team are trying to drive Microsoft away from consoles by focusing on delivering exclusive games to other platforms. We’ve seen first-party titles such as Party Animals and Sea of Thieves hitting PS5 in recent months.

The company is even scaling back on console marketing completely in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. All of this means one thing: there’s a chance that Microsoft cease making consoles altogether.

Shutting down the most legendary console will truly be a loss for gaming enthusiasts, marking the end of an era that shaped the current gaming industry. Let’s keep our fingers crossed, and we hope that Xbox will be able to turn around this situation with its next-generation consoles.

With that said, are you excited for the next Grand Theft Auto? If so, let us know in the comments what you would like to see in the game.
