"Baldur 3" Steam online peak still has 90,000 foreign media: It can be successful without a service system

Baldur's Gate 3 is still very popular after nearly a year of release. SteamDB data shows that the peak number of online players on Steam is still around 90,000. Foreign media VideoGamer believes that the success of Baldur's Gate 3 proves that not all games need to be made into services.

VideoGame pointed out that it is true that "Baldur's Gate 3" is different from most games. It has won numerous awards and has an average score of 96 on M.com, but this does show that players prefer well-made and fascinating games rather than popular online service games that "may be ignored after two years of operation."

"There are a finite number of gamers, and a finite amount of time each player can spend playing games. The problem is, if you want to stay ahead, stay competitive, or collect the new characters or items that come out of each update, you might have to play these online service games like you're working... But if I just want to spend an hour playing a game, it's easier to speed through Resident Evil 2 than to try to figure out what's new in the First Descendants patch, and I think a lot of players feel the same way."

"While they may be outliers, games like Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 show that players still enjoy and want incredible single-player experiences. They may not be dominating the Steam charts, though."
