---|---|---|
Alien DNA |
You volunteered for a controversial experiment that combines alien and human DNA. As a result, you start with increased health and oxygen, but healing and food items aren't as effective. | - |
Your character gains increased Health and Oxygen at the start of the game. This makes you significantly more durable, and would work well with melee or shotgun builds.
The effects you gain from aid items is less effective. This slightly lowers your survivability since it affects all aid items, including ones that cure status afflictions and ones that buff up your character's stats.
You can remove the Alien DNA Trait by talking to a doctor at Reliant Medical. However, you will need 10,000 credits to have the Alien DNA trait removed. This also does not allow you to choose another trait to replace it.

Dream Home |
You own a luxurious, customizable house on a peaceful planet! Unfortunately it comes with a 125,000 credit mortgage with GalBank that has to be paid weekly. | - |
You get to own your own dream home on the planet Nesoi in the Olympus star system. This house is also exclusive to players who choose this trait. The house also offers all the crafting workbenches and some storage space.
Players will have to pay a debt of 125,000 credits to GalBank. Although, you have a choice of paying it in full as soon as possible, or paying 500 credits every week which is preferred.
Best Houses and How to Get All
You can remove the trait by going to any GalBank branch and talking to the clerk in the counter. There you can give them permission to forclose your dream home. Once the trait is removed, there is no other way to get it back during the same playthrough.

---|---|---|
Empath |
You are deeply connected to the feelings of others. Performing actions your companion likes will result in a temporary increase in combat effectiveness. But. performing actions they don't like will have the precise opposite effect. | - |
Choosing dialogue choices that your companions like will give them the Self-Esteem buff which increases their critical hit chance. This is a useful trait to have while you are doing the main missions and side missions, since you will have plenty of chances to choose dialogue your companion likes while also getting into combat soon after.
Conversely, if you choose dialogue options that your companion dislikes, they will gain the Self-Doubt debuff which reduces their critical hit chance. Due to this, it is recommended for you to have a companion you align with to make the most out of the trait.
Dialogue Choices and Consequences
Players can remove the Empath trait by talking to a doctor in any Reliant Medical branch. Just talk to them about your trait and pay them 10,000 credits to remove it.
Trait | Description | Incompatible Traits |
---|---|---|
Extrovert |
You're a people person. Exerting yourself uses less oxygen when adventuring with human companions. but more when adventuring alone. (Can't be combined with Introvert.) |
・ Introvert |
The trait lets players use actions like dashing, jumping, and melee attacks without spending as much oxygen. This is a great trait for those who plan on using melee builds and enjoys having human companions since they will be using these types of actions frequently in combat.
However, if you do not bring along a human companion with you, those actions will cost you more oxygen to use. It would be best then to always have a companion with you everywhere you go to avoid this debuff.
Players can remove the Extrovert trait by going to the House of the Enlightened at the Well in New Atlantis. Talk to Andy Singh and a dialogue box will appear that lets you get rid of it.

Freestar Collective Settler |
You gain access to special Freestar Collective dialogue options, and better rewards from some missions given by the faction. But, crime bounty towards other factions is greatly increased. (Can't be combined with any other faction allegiance trait.) |
・ Neon Street Rat ・ United Colonies Native |
Having this trait gives the player access to special dialogue options and better rewards from Freestar Collective related missions, particularly from the Freestar Collective Mission Boards. This is great for players who already know they want to align with this faction from the start.
Although players gain advantage with this faction, they will also receive greater crime bounty from other factions, such as the United Colonies. This means that you will need to be more careful whenever you are in other territories.
You can remove this trait by talking with Mayor Elias at Akila City. Choose the dialogue options related to the Freestar Collective Trait and the choice to remove it will show up.

Hero Worshipped |
You've earned the attention of an annoying "Adoring Fan" who will show up randomly and jabber at you incessantly. On the plus side, he'll join your ship's crew and give you gifts... | - |
You gain an adoring fan as a free crew member that you can assign to your ship or outposts, but it is unknown what kind of traits they can offer to the crew. They also give you gifts from time to time, and the items you receive will be random materials or credits.
The main downside of this trait is that they can be annoying as they pester you or disturb whatever you are doing. They can also randomly appear out of nowhere sometimes, even if you assigned them somewhere else.
Crew Explained: What Do Crew Member Do?
You can remove this trait by simply killing the hardcore fan. This will stop them from appearing randomly and annoying you, and it will also remove them from your crew.

Introvert |
You really need your alone time. Exerting yourself uses less oxygen when adventuring alone, but more when adventuring with other human companions, (Can't be combined with Extrovert.) |
・ Extrovert |
The Introvert trait is the opposite of the Extrovert trait since you get to use actions like Dashing, Melee Attacks, and Jumping without using as much oxygen if you do not have any human companions following you. This is great lone wolf builds where you plan on doing everything by yourself.
However, these same actions can cost more oxygen if you bring along a companion with you. This can be troublesome during main missions since some missions require you to have your companions follow along.
Similar to the Extrovert trait, players can remove the Introvert trait by going to the House of the Enlightened at the Well in New Atlantis. Talk to Andy Singh and a dialogue box will appear that lets you get rid of it.

Kid Stuff |
Your parents are alive and well, and you can visit them at their home. But you will automatically send 2% of your credits home to them every week. | - |
The biggest pro of this trait is that players get to visit their parents at their home in New Atlantis. They have unique interactions whenever you visit them, and they also give you special gifts from time to time that can only be obtained from them, such as the Wanderwell ship.
However, players will need to give 2% of your total credits to their parents every week. Although since it is a percentage, you do not need to worry about losing too much money since you will always get to keep 98% of your credits.
You can choose to remove this trait by talking with your Dad about not being able to send them credits anymore. If you remove this trait, you will not be able to enter back home and meet them ever again.

・ Freestar Collective Settler ・ United Colonies Native |
Similar to other Faction traits, you will gain access to unique Neon dialogue options, and you will have higher rewards from completing Neon-related side missions, particulary ones from the Neon Mission Boards.
The downside is you will receive a higher bounty from other factions, such as the Freestar Collective, if you are caught doing a crime in their domain. You will have to be more careful whenever you are in other factions' territories.

・ Raised Enlightened ・ Raised Universal |
Whenever you grav jump to other star systems, you gain a temporary buff to your health and oxygen. This is great for space-farer and space pirate builds where you plan on traversing through different star systems constantly.
However, you will gain a debuff to your health and oxygen whenever you do not grav jump regularly. This means you will need to grav jump back and forth frequently if you plan on staying on a star system for a while.
This trait can be removed by talking to Mir'za in the UC Security Office prisons in New Atlantis. Choose the dialogue choices related to the Serpent's Embrace trait and the option to remove it will appear.

Spaced |
Your body has become acclimated to space. Health and oxygen are increased when in space. but decreased when on the surface. (Can't be combined with Terra Firma.) |
・ Terra Firma |
Players gain increased health and oxygen whenever they are out in space. This is great for space pirate builds as you will be fighting a lot in space while you hijack ships or loot contrabands from abandoned space stations.
Although you have the advantage in space, you will receive a debuff to your health and oxygen whenever you are on planets and moons. Players will need to be strategic whenever they have to fight enemies on land.
Combat Tips and Mistakes to Avoid
Players can remove the Spaced trait by talking to a doctor at any Reliant Medical branch. You just need to talk about your trait and pay them 10,000 credits to have it ''cured.''

Taskmaster |
Occasionally, if you have crew trained in a certain ship system, that system will automatically repair itself to full health whenever it is damaged below 50%. However, all crew cost twice as much to hire. | - |
Your ship in a system can automatically repair itself whenever it goes below 50% if you have crew trained in that ship. This means you will need to do less managing with your ships since you do not have to worry about it being too low on health.
Although, hiring crew members will cost 2x more than usual. This makes it much more difficult finding crew members not just on your ship, but also for your outposts.
Crew Explained: What Do Crew Members Do?
Players can remove the trait by talking to Keeper Aquilus at the Sanctum Universum in New Atlantis. You just need to talk to him about your Taskmaster trait and the choice to remove it will appear.
Trait | Description | Incompatible Traits |
---|---|---|
Terra Firma |
You've never acclimated to space. Health and oxygen are increased when on the surface, but decreased when you're in space. (Can't be combined with Spaced.) |
・ Spaced |
Opposite to the Spaced trait, players gain increased health and oxygen whenever they are on land, which includes all planets and moons. This is a great trait to have for those who plan on surveying planets since you will be faced with wild alien animals frequently.
However, you will have decreased health and oxygen while you are out in space. You will need to be careful whenever you board enemy ships, space stations, and staryards since you will be at a disadvantage while fighting.
Combat Tips and Mistakes to Avoid
Players can remove the Terra Firma trait by talking to a doctor at any Reliant Medical branch. You just need to talk about your trait and pay them 10,000 credits to have it ''cured.''

You gain access to special United Colonies dialogue options, and better rewards from some missions given by the faction. However, crime bounty by other factions is greatly increased. (Can't be combined with any other faction allegiance trait.) |
・ Freestar Collective Settler ・ Neon Street Rat |
As a United Colonies Native, the player gains special dialogue options and better rewards from United Colonies related side missions, particularly ones from the United Colonies Mission Boards.
Due to your allegiance, you will face higher bounties whenever you get caught doing a crime in other factions' territories, such as Freestar Collective. You have to be wary whenever you are outside of your faction's domain.
Players will need to visit the Colonial Health and Human Resources Office in the MAST building of New Atlantis. When you are there, talk to Administrator Rookes and the choice to remove the trait will appear.

Wanted |
Someone put a price on your head, and word has spread. Occasionally, armed mercenaries will show up and try to kill you, but being cornered gives you an edge - when your health is low, you do extra damage. | - |
Having the Wanted trait lets you deal more damage whenever you are low on health. This is a great trait for those who want to constantly duel and fight enemies, since it will give you an edge at the most crucial moments.
Since you are a wanted person, there will be mercenaries who show up randomly from time to time trying to kill you. You will need to kill them every time they appear if you want to get away.
Combat Tips and Mistakes to Avoid
If you do not want people hunting you down anymore, you can remove the trait by talking to any Tracker Alliance Agent and paying them 3,000 credits. You can easily find an agent at the entrance of Cydonia in Mars.
Traits give benefits to your character, including special access to items, new dialogue options, and stat buffs. However, traits have drawbacks tied to them, such as losing credits regularly or decreased endurance.
Traits are completely optional, and up to three can be assigned when creating your character. Having certain traits can make your experience more unique, so customize your character with them!
Traits can be removed by speaking with certain NPCs in the game. This means you won't have to start over to get rid of undesirable traits.
While you can remove traits you no longer want, there is currently no way for you to add more Traits after the character creation scene. Players will need to be careful what traits they choose at the start of the game to make the most of them.
