The Old Gourd, which is the most basic Gourd in the game, can be upgraded several times to increase its Sip charges, allowing you to get more heals.
This Gourd can be upgraded from the Shen Monkey with the use of Luojia Fragrant Vines.
Do note that other Gourds cannot be upgraded further.
Gourds are your primary recovery equipment in the game. You can heal and replenish your health bar every time you use your Gourd and consume a Sip charge, which is shown on the lower left side of the screen.
Running out of charges will empty your Gourd, and you will no longer be able to heal with it once you run out of charges.
Resting at Shrines will fully replenish your Gourd, but do note that this will also revive all slain enemies in the map.
You can check how many charges a Gourd has in the Equipment menu.
Drinks and Soaks are items you can equip that give additional effects to your Gourds.
Drinks can increase the amount of health restored and give buffs after each use. These Drinks can be slotted in with Soaks, which grant additional buffs after using a Gourd charge.
You can manage your Gourd's Drinks and Soaks at Shrines or while speaking to the Shen Monkey.
Some Gourds can have useful effects themselves whenever you use them. These effects can change how much recovery you can get each time you use the Gourd in exchange for other useful boosts.
An NPC named Shen Monkey can upgrade your Gourds, adding more Sip charges so that you can use them more. You need Luojia Fragrant Vines to upgrade your Gourds.
