Balduran's Giantslayer Location | |
---|---|
Balduran's Giantslayer is obtained by defeating the dragon, Ansur. To reach his boss area, players will need to find the Wyrmway underneath Wyrm's Rock Prison and complete its trials. |
To obtain Balduran's Giantslayer, players will first need to find the Wyrmway in Wyrm's Rock Prison. Upon entering the prison, turn left and you should see 2 dragonhead torches flanking a bare wall. Use lightning spells on both torches to turn their flames blue. This reveals the way into the Wyrmway.
Note: You are not required to progress the Rescue the Grand Duke side quest in order to access the Wyrmway. The only thing this side quest does is give you the book that provides the clue to the Wyrmway's entrance.
Once you are allowed through to Baldur's Gate, getting to the prison should be as easy as going to Wyrm's Rock Fortress and taking the passageway down to the prison area. If you're doing this before disabling the Steel Watch, then the guard should be asleep. Pickpocket the key from him and use it to unlock the door to the prison.
Note: If you are looking for Wyrm's Rock Prison after finding the Iron Throne or after Disabling the Steel Watch then prepare yourself for a fight. Once you reach Wyrm's Rock Fortress all Flaming Fist soldiers will be hostile.
All Wyrmway Puzzle Solutions | |

Chamber of Justice | Chamber of Insight |
Chamber of Courage | Chamber of Strategy |
There are four chambers in the Wyrmway, each with its own puzzle or trial to solve. Complete the trials in the Chamber of Justice, Insight, Courage, and Strategy to unlock the way into the Dragon Sanctum where Ansur waits.
The paintings surrounding the room tell a story. You must continue the narrative to mete out justice. Begin by examining the shrouded paintings. The summary window should say that they are Shrouded and that this status effect is a Curse.
Dispel the shadows by using Remove Curse on the painting right behind the statue of Balduran. Pick up the newly revealed painting called The Cell and place it on the Empty Niche to solve the Trial of Justice.
Kill the spirit named Suelto to solve the puzzle. However, if you do want to piece the puzzle together yourself, you can cast Sleep on the flying books to get them to stop moving. Once they're on the ground, read them to find out clues about why Suelto (and her ideology) needed to be killed.
The Chamber of Courage is a survival game. Survive 4 Turns against Water Elementals and Myrmidons to complete the trial. Do note that you do not need to kill everything. Once 4 turns are up, all leftover enemies will die immediately.
Note: The sides of the arena are not fake ledges. You can launch enemies from them provided your party is positioned well. Shove or use spells like Thunderwave and Gust of Wind to push your enemies off the arena.
To solve the chess game puzzle inside the Chamber of Strategy, you will need to take the Black King in two moves. Follow the moves shown below to solve the puzzle:
Alternatively, you can just destroy the Black King using a lightning spell like Shocking Grasp to solve the puzzle quickly.
Once all the puzzles are complete, head to the now unlocked Dragon Sanctum and interact with Balduran's statue to open the doors to the boss. Inside, you will find Ansur - a 400 HP, Level 17 Undead Dragon. Defeat him to get the Legendary Greatsword called Balduran's Giantslayer (you can also get the Helm of Balduran from the altar behind the dragon).
Note: Ansur is immune to Lightning and Poison damage, as well as highly resistant to Necrotic damage. If these are your main damage sources (e.g., if you're a Tempest Cleric or Storm Sorcerer) then you may want to respec into a different build for this fight.
