Baldur

Hit Die (Hit Dice) is used to calculate max Hit Points (HP) for a character in Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3). Read on to learn how Hit Die affects HP, how to calculate HP for each level, as well as the list of Hit Die for each class!

What is a Hit Die?

Determines a Character's Starting Max HP

Baldur

Max HP at Level 1
Hit Die Max Value + Constitution Modifier

Hit Die is used to determine a character's max HP at level 1 by adding their Constitution modifier to the maximum value of their hit die.

For Example: A character with a d8 hit die and a constitution modifier of +3 will begin with 11 HP (8+3) at level 1.

What is Constitution?

Determines the HP You Get Per Level

Baldur

HP Per Level
[(Hit Die / 2) Rounded Up] + Constitution Modifier
Hit Die Half Value Rounded Up
d6 4
d8 5
d10 6
d12 7

When leveling up, a character's HP will increase based on half the value of their hit die rounded up 1 plus their Constitution Modifier.

For Example: A character with a d8 hit die and a constitution modifier of +3 will gain an additional 8 HP(5+3) when they level up.
