Starfield was one of the most successful video games in 2023. Amidst the crowd of Diablo 4, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, and many more, the Bethesda title was well and truly a true contender for the Game of the Year award. It would have won it too if it wasn’t for the Larian Studios giant.
As a consequence, a shout for its sequel was quite evident. Fans have started demanding a successor for this game already. And it seems the Director of Bethesda might have heard these shouts and he has a positive response for that, but we have to pay a huge price for that as well.
In an interview with MrMattyPlays, the director and executive producer of Bethesda Game Studios talked about the future of the company. The most anticipated part of this video was the question about any probability of Starfield 2.
Howard replied positively that there will be a sequel in the near future, but as of now, the game is not on the cards. However, there is a DLC of the game released recently that is getting huge backlash from the fans. We hope the sequel won’t follow the path of that expansion. This is what the man behind so many great games had to say about a potential sequel:
This statement from Howard clearly indicates that the company will be working on a sequel of the game very soon, as it is nurturing its three big franchises. He also talked about how big the Starfield family is right now, with over 14 million players and an average playtime of 40 hours. That is why, as per him, it’s important to take care of this huge family right now.
He knows people have to wait for some time till the company gets “some of these big things out,” but he hopes “it’s worth the wait” and he is looking to do the best that he can across the studio.
From that interview, we can clearly understand that the main focus of the company right now is its three big IPs: The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Starfield. Bethesda is one of the bests in the business when it comes to innovation in the gaming world.
But after hearing the words from the director himself, it seems the company is going to settle down for a bit with these three franchises, just like any other company. That means we are not going to see any new IPs in the near future, as for now. Howard also talks about taking care of the family that consists of fans of these three gaming series.
This might look pretty promising at the beginning that the company is ready to invest its time and effort on these franchises, and it’s pretty good. But if we think about the wider spectrum, not getting any new IP is a huge loss for all of us. Just think, if Bethesda settled down with this mindset only on the basis of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, we would have never got Starfield, not at least in 2023.
