Pickpocket NPCs with Gold Pouches
The most convenient way to acquire Scholar Favor Tokens is via pickpocketing the many NPCs that roam the streets in game.
Use Eagle Vision to pick out the civilians with gold pouches. These pouches will most likely have more chances of containing expensive trade goods and Favor Tokens.
Make sure to also enable Guaranteed Pickpocket in the Gameplay Settings menu to skip the pickpocket quick-time event.
Pickpocket Between the Cartographer and Basra Gate
The fastest way to get Scholar Favor Tokens is to pickpocket on the road between the Cartographer and Basra Gate in Round City.
Almost all civilians in this area carry gold pouches, so you will most likely obtain Scholar Favor Tokens. In addition, there is a bench near Basra Gate which you can use to pass time and reset civilians.
Deliver Lost Books to Al-Jahiz in the House of Wisdom
You can collect 6 Lost Books without having to progress through the main story. Returning 5 of these Lost books to Al-Jahiz at the House of Wisdom in Yasiriyah will reward you with a Scholar Favor Token each.
Delivering Lost Books is a guaranteed way of farming Scholar Favor Tokens in the early game.

How to Use Scholar Favor Tokens
Distract Guards With Musicians
Scholar Favor Tokens can be payed to busking Musicians. This causes all the nearby guards to gather around the hired Musician, allowing Basim to pass through the area unnoticed.
Paying for these musicians 5 times gives you the Patron of the Arts achievement.
