The Protagonist of Assassin's Creed Mirage

AC Mirage - Basim Kills

Players will take on the role of Basim Ibn Is'haq, a street thief turned Hidden One navigating the chaos of 9th Century Baghdad during the Anarchy of Samarra.

Basim was first introduced in Assassin's Creed Valhalla as Eivor's Hidden One Mentor. In AC Mirage, players will relive Basim's younger years in Baghdad before he traveled to Norway.

Both the Historical and Present-Day Protagonist

Unlike previous games where present-day characters relieve their distant ancestor's lives via genetic memory, the Basim you control in the present day is the same person from the past, with present-day Basim reliving his memories in Baghdad using the Animus.

This unique circumstance was shown in Assassin's Creed Valhalla where Basim was resurrected at the end of the game with Layla Hassan's sacrifice.

Merges with Nehal in the Ending

AC Mirage - Merges with Nehal in the Ending
As revealed in the final mission In Pursuit of Truth, Basim's childhood friend Nehal is actually his repressed memories of his life as the Isu Loki.

During the ending, Basim merges with Nehal and is re-born as Loki with the Isu's personality and aspirations now becoming dominant. His final words in the ending reveals that he's looking forward to reunite with his jailers should they also reincarnate, which sets up the events of Assassin's Creed Valhallla.

Basim Ibn Is'haq Character Lore

Basim is the Human Reincarnation of Loki

Loki
As depicted in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Basim is in fact the human reincarnation of the Isu Loki and having escaped the Great Catastrophe by uploading his genetic code using the Yggdrasil Supercomputer.

Loki was reborn a millenia later as Basim who is said to have suffered manic episodes when he was younger due to the Isu's influence. Basim eventually came to an agreement with Loki and began hunting for fellow Æsir who managed to reincarnate.

This culminated in Basim travelling to Norway in 870 and meeting Eivor and Sigurd, who were the reincarnations of the Isu Odin and Tyr respectively. He would then accompany Eivor's clan to England where he would establish a new Hidden One chapter in Ravensthorpe.

Final Boss of Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Eivor vs Basim
Although Basim served as Eivor's mentor during the events of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Loki's memories managed to consume Basim after discovering the Yggdrasil Supercomputer in Hordafylke.

Engaging both Eivor and Sigurd in a final battle, Basim was eventually defeated when Sigurd activated Yggdrasil and trapped him in it.

Many years later in 2020, Basim managed to resurrect himself using the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus at the cost of Layla Hassan's life, and eventually met with the modern-day Assassin Order and William Miles.
