“Imagine hating your own character and seeing him everywhere”: The Tokyo Skytree Gave Gojo the Sendoff that Gege Akutami Refused to Do in Jujutsu Kaisen

Spoiler Alert !!!
This article contains Jujutsu Kaisen Manga Spoilers.

Jujutsu Kaisen Manga has reached its end after achieving monumental acclaim in the anime-manga industry. A huge reason behind this successful run was the memorable characters, especially Gojo Satoru. Gojo has left an indelible mark in the anime community, his popularity is unparalleled. Even those unfamiliar with Gege Akutami’s anime-manga series are bound to recognize his gorgeous character design.

Beyond the visually appealing persona, he was the strongest character in the series. Most fans of the series have drawn a conclusion that Akutami hates Gojo, simply because of the way he gets treated in the manga. The ending of the series further solidifies this belief, as Gojo’s sendoff is extremely lackluster and unsatisfying.

The popularity of Jujutsu Kaisen is truly extraordinary. From inspiring memes to lengthy discussions, the story offers both great depth and high entertainment value. And Gojo is the focal point of all things JJK-related. Recently, as the manga was drawing closer to its end, the Tokyo Skytree illuminated in the same colors as Gojo’s domain expansion. It was a beautiful sendoff to an iconic character like Gojo.

The original video was posted by X user @kieskeeE. Fans rightfully pointed out in the comments of an Instagram post that the celebration of Gojo by Tokyo Skytree was infinitely better than Akutami’s treatment of the character in the manga.

They celebrate it with gojo’s domain but gojo didnt even make it to the end😔

We love and appreciate Gojo more than Gege ever will. He carried the manga yet gets no recognition at the end. Sad.

Look at that Gege, the character you hate so much is the celebratory symbol

This common belief that Gege Akutami hates Gojo arose from the various comments the creator has made about the character. It has become a stretched-out joke in the fandom. However, the unfulfilling conclusion to Gojo’s character in the manga suggests that maybe Akutami is actually not that fond of Gojo. Even the villain who wreaked havoc got a better sendoff than Gojo. First, he was snapped in half like a KitKat, and then we saw glimpses of him in flashback scenes.

We don’t see the other characters giving Gojo a proper funeral; however, we do see them reminiscing about him. For the things he achieved and his impactful personality, Gojo deserved better from Akutami as a character. Up until the very end, most of us hoped that Gojo would make a comeback in the story. This hope will never materialize into reality as the final chapter of the manga releases this weekend.

The supposed final chapter of the manga will be published this weekend. The spoilers floating on the internet in the past week show a final scene between Yuji and Gojo. Yuji reminisces about the time Gojo somewhat spoke about his hopes in the next generation. It gives us a glimpse of the burden he was carrying up until the very end. Gojo was known as the strongest character and it was a huge part of identity.

Seemingly, he was waiting to pass the baton to someone worthy. He saw a glimpse of that potential in his students, who he deeply cared about. It was a sweet conversation and the conclusion is fairly good, but there was enough room for so much more to happen. A story woven over a span of more than five years and several characters loved by fans endlessly could have received a more fitting conclusion.
